ive recently changed my battery on a 125CC thinking battery was faulty, but now bike cut off and when it started working it showed 11.8 volts on idle so problem is definatly not the battery so now i ordered regulator rectifier am hopping thats the problem but could it be stator and how likely is it to be regulator rectifier?

What happened to the shown voltage when you revved the engine?

i havent reved it as it was the breakdown guy who checked it but for a 1-2 minutes it was stable 11.8volts and battery was 70% charged when i got it and managed to write it an hour or two before it cut off

I've had a few regulators die with similar results. Never a stator.

However it can also be a wiring issue. The best tool for diagnosis is a multimeter.

As you've ordered a regulator, fit it, then use a multimeter to measure the voltage across your battery with the bike idling and then at 5k rpm. I'd be happy to see a figure >13v and <15v.

If the regulator doesn't do it, post back here, and we'll be able to guide you on how to track down where the issue actually is.

sure i thought it was battery then when i found out its not i thought second common one is the regulator. also my wiring is fine as its checked out by a mechanic

When?

By wiring I don't mean that you've got cables cut in half all over the place. It can be as simple as corrosion on the pins coming out of the reg/rec or stator.

Did your mechanic unplug the stator and reg/rec in order to verify your wiring is fine? I wouldn't personally believe anybody that told me all of my wiring is fine unless they've done continuity checks and resistance checks over each wire, inspected the insulation, and verified all of the connections are clean. I'd be dubious if somebody made that claim and it certainly wouldn't stop me spending 5-10 minutes with a multimeter to double check that the wiring isn't playing a factor in my electrical issue.

I've just had the same problem on my CBR. was reading about 12V on the battery at idle, 5k 9k and redline. higher the rev the lower the voltage got.

Took the Reg/Rec off and tested this with a multimeter. using This

Reg/rec was okay, but as i was putting it back on i shorted 2 of the wires and blew my main fuse, when checking this i was melted to the stator unit, with a little bit of corrosion on this.

Broke the main fuse trying to get it out, once i replaced it, battery was reading 13+V at idle and 14ishV at 5k+

Hope this helps,

Beefamus

It is quick and easy to test the stator windings are intact using a multimeter.

What bike is it?
