Those little VTR250's were beautiful things though, with old school Honda Build quality. 30bhp V-twin 250 is enough to have some fun with and they had a lot more style (Little Monster) than the MT/R25/30.

I don't really see how Yamaha has massively improved on the Ninja 300 with the R3 either? The build quality and the componentry selected looks far worse/cheaper and just from a looks perspective it's a real let down/backward step over even the Ninja 300.

What Yamaha had is a very nice small chassis in the YZF125R, and the mk2 version with the better suspension, bigger USD forks and 4pot caliper is a good motorcycle for a sporty 15bhp learner bike.

While it's not quite as specced chassis wise or has the sporty riding position as the Aprilia RS125 did, all Yamaha would have needed to do was fit that 31bhp WR250X engine into one, change the gearing, and tweak the suspension. A 30bhp 250cc single in a bike that's going to be much lighter is a winner IMO, over a half serious half commuter attempt at a 300cc twin with a very average chassis and level of spec and components, and horridly cheap looking build quality.

How much would a YZF250R have cost? If it was as nice a bike as the 125 but with the WR's engine, you could have priced that closer to £5k and still had lots of KTM stealing sales IMO.

If an MT would be kind enough to turn up within, ooo I dunno, 150 miles of my general location I'd have bought one by now. I really do want one, for some unexplained reason.

Nope, if I had and enjoyed it - I'd have taken a total punt on one delivered from outer hebrides or something from a dealer but there's just none around here for some reason. Very nearest one is ~100 miles away at a dealer at £1500 more than I want to spend so a waste of everyone's time.

Do you imply have I ridden one by chance? Have you and liked or disliked?

What I'm after is a light, cheap, chuckable thing with a bit of character and ease of use to it. Fit bill?

I think you'll find that's "gravity" - as can be seen by other objects of significant mass like the moon, it does have some influence on other things far away.

I was kinda looking forward to the MT-250/03, especially seeing how the MT-125 turned out. Was kinda disappointed though. Were the 250/03 and 125 designed by different teams? The 125 looked classy as heck with its perimeter frame, nice blockiness and resemblance to the MT-07 and MT-09.

The 250/03 on the other hand.. cheap-looking tube frame and the design looks like a Chinese commuter bike with chunks of plastic bitten out. It's so pedestrian. Blaargh. Neutral

Problem?

(Old stylee) MT-03s were hilariously over-priced when new which is why they only sold ~850 of them. Their owners still seem to think they're something special, so you can't be too choosy if you want a cheap 'un.

There's plenty others at or around that price that aren't marked on the millstone register - the only advantage of that one is it's close by - ish, anyway, as it's still two counties away

Is it worth less because those insurance rapscallions say it's worth less?

Value not so much an issue - ability to sell is. Hence millstone.

If it were significantly cheaper then I'd take a punt and whatever but to have a bike on board I don't need very long with a marker against it just means a ball ache to sell.

Eh. At that age and price, I wouldn't pay money to find out its history. Where's the benefit to me?

Missed this first time round!

How are you getting on with it? Got space in the garage now with the YBR going yesterday and after doing an hour on the Sprint yesterday I was in pain, so I'm looking to step up my search.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for it? Values seem to be all over the place

Offer is still there, I paid very little for it from a mate. it seems I could get about 2k as it is from ebay, I have seen prices all over the place.

As for how am I getting on with it its fantastic, I do really love the thing, it wheelies well, pulls really well and suspension is spot on, the only issue I have with mine is the rear brake is shit it holds you on hills and stuff but I can't lock it up..

Seen a couple now that have been bouncing around Gumtree and EBay for a month or so now. Started off at 3K - one I reckon will shift for about 2300 now as he's seeming to get desperate. The other is up at 2500 and has the all important make an offer button.

Maybe it's winter but they don't seem to sell very well. Same bikes up for weeks now

I saw two come up locally this year. Both sellers were proper "NO TIME WASTERS NO OFFERS I KNOW WHAT IT'S WORTH" mental cases. One guy was adamant that he was going to sell it with an "MT" private plate on it for £10K. Rolling Eyes

Hmm, there's a 2006 in Jim Allan's in Falkirk for £2500. If my memory serves, it's been loitering there since 2013, when he was asking something like £5K for it. Laughing

There are still some 0 mile examples being sold as new stock - what's up with that?
