PostPosted: 23:54 - 03 Dec 2015    Post subject: Another insurance/speeding question Reply with quote

Did search, didn't find anything.

Recieved a TVP Christmas card this morning. 53 in a 30. (Dual carriageway, goes from 50 to 40 to 30, should have expected it)

My question is this. I expect a court summons, first offence, fine, 6 points. My insurance is due for renewal this week. What do I/don't I declare? If I get a summons for say, 6 months time, do I need to declare that on my new policy or only once a decision is made? If they (doubtfully) decide on FPN, what then?

Thanks

I'd keep my mouth shut. How would they know if you have just received the letter?

Just answer the questions they ask.

What exactly have you received? A NIP and an S172?

Pfffft, renew, forget about it until the points are on your license.

Yeah exactly that. I won't mention any convictions then as I don't have any yet, what if they ask about pending convictions? No, yes but not specific or find a new insurer?

If you're due for renewal you've got your statement of fact and paperwork. Read the question carefully ,- what is it asking?

Asks about pending convictions. If I fill this in, and the date, but put 0 points it doesn't change the cost

Really? Genuine question, they may have been slipshod and incompetent enough to write "convictions" when they meant prosecutions.

Surely you can't have a pending conviction until you've been through the court system..

Pending conviction seems like an oxymoron...

Surely that only applies between being found guilty and sentencing?

Mmm, yes, we've been here before with this.

Read the question carefully

What are the actual words used?

Hastings, for example, ask about "pending prosecutions".

Even at that, while I intend to bareback Alyson Hannigan, sadly the event isn't pending.

You've got a NIP, right, not a NPP?

It's a notice of intended prosecution. The question from insurer is;

Any motoring convictions (including fixed penalty endorsements or anything pending) in the last 5 years

I agree. Your insurers will not.

If it comes to it, you can use my analogy above. Wink

It worked out cheaper to say I have an sp30 with 0 points. When I get points I'll update it.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Possibly but if I'm notifying them if they decide to change the premium it's down to them to cover the admin

I really would recommend that you read your contract.
