Do you filter on two lane roundabouts?

Just wonder how do you handle them?

I usually filter in the middle to the front and then gas it. Than I move to the left or right lane depending which is safer at the moment.

Depends on the roundabout, traffic, weather, lighting. You're giving yourself and other drivers a lot to deal with. It needs to be worth it.

Sometimes. There's one near work that regularly gets gridlocked; traffic is slow, so cagers squeeze through as the lights turn red, which means they block the progress of cars from the right and nothing really moves. Except for the bikes weaving through the selfish bastards caught in the web of their own impatience.

If the traffic is flowing then I'll filter towards the front of the entry queue then drop into one or other of the lanes either on the approach or when I've gunned it onto the roundabout, dependent upon flow, road conditions, the usual stuff. I certainly don't go between lanes on a roundabout that is moving.

The one close to where I live is a nightmare at anything close to rush hour. Gaps to enter the roundabout are tiny and cars regularly block the entrance whilst queuing for their exit.

If I'm more than about 6 cars back during anything close to peak time, I'll filter to the front, then I'll gun it to get through into a gap the car wouldn't have attempted.

Certainly wouldn't be pleasing an examiner by that!

The cars are always such dicks continuously using the lanes as they please rather than as directed, so I personally prefer getting on to the roundabout before them rather than with them. I regularly see busses and taxis going from lane 1, cutting the entire thing to get in to the right-turn inner lane of the roundabout, giving 0-regard to the vehicles in the middle and right lane that have to stop.

I wouldn't filter around a roundabout, but only in the middle of the two lanes approaching it.

Car drivers often don't know how to or cant turn the steering wheel enough to stay in the lane they entered the roundabout in. Taxi driver's, OAP's and Van driver's are even worse.

It's often not even safe to filter between lanes of urban dual carriage ways as twats (not just in Premium German cars) can't refrain from cutting each other up and changing lanes without looking in the mirrors or causing other drivers in the other lane to brake and call them a wanker.

Slowly moving traffic then fuck no, people cant roundabout at the best of times, and having cars too close together to determine wheter roundabout is regular, spiral, non-standard or the one in rotherham with missing markings the examiners use when they want an excuse to fail you, is just a recipe for disaster as the chances of stupid are massively high.

Giant roundabouts with many sets of lights, filter but be careful where i end up, being at the lights where vehicles to my left could be going right and I'm going left or vice versa gets dicey really quick if i dont make it to the front or into a gap in traffic before the lights change.

It's not always possibe to race someone away from the line becasue traffic further around the roundabout. Derne valley parkway and similar through manvers has a collection of roundabouts where two entry lanes allegedly go straight on, but there is about 10 metres of merge lane, usually strewn with debris and gravel and mostly where the bike is cranked over too much to get on the throttle. Cars do not expect me to be in such places and thus run wide as they 50-pence their way around the tight bends.

Yes, but when a gap appears I’ll push in near the front so I’m in the correct lane. Getting stuck on a roundabout with a car either side of you isn’t worth it.

I do filter in roundabouts with two or more lanes if the traffic is stationary or effectively so. If the traffic is moving at above walking pace, I slot in to the correct lane.

A busy London roundabout is sensory overload, especially at night (which is all the time for me, this time of year). Even the best drivers will struggle, and most drivers completely fail at some observations. For that reason, I also don't filter to the front when entering the roundabout, but to the car behind. The drivers just entering have too much on their plate looking right and to the front to notice a matte-black bike in the middle of the lane. It's too much of a risk.

My real answer is, "Depends".

Since Depends means I do on the right occasion, it is more accurate to answer Yes than No.

It very much depends on the traffic flow, the size of the road that I'm on and the visibility.

Think this might be aimed more at busy centre roundabouts. I live in quite a rural area and the roundabouts near me arent near lights and are all fast flowing, so no need to be filtering.

As long as any stationary or slow moving traffic is safe enough to filter i'll do it. But i also think putting yourself in a more dangerous situation simply to get a bit further ahead is pretty silly.

Only sometimes, and only if I'll make significant progress. I'm always more aware and more tolerant of people suddenly changing lanes, some roundabouts are poorly designed and can catch even the locals out

I'll filter on the approach to the roundabout, but I won't usually filter while I'm actually going around it.

However, sometimes I'll do it, because London - but too many people change lanes randomly for it to always be a safe option.
