I don't follow UFC in the slightest but on facebook I keep seeing big things to do with this upcoming fight.

What are peoples' thoughts on this McGregor lad? I see videos all the time which pretty much glorify him as the greatest human being in the realm of UFC.

He's clearly a really, really good fighter but as a person he seems an absolute wanker.

Opinions..?

He almost seems as though someone has taken Mickey the pikey from Snatch, added in a bit of Bender B Rodriguez from the episode "Raging Bender" and sent it out there as a PR stunt.

That said, he looks pretty useful in the ring, although the last fight in that montage does look like he took a fair bit of punishment.

UFC is in hype machine mode atm. Expanded massively over the past few years and they are milking whatever they can out of these outspoken arrogant fighters.

He comes across as an arrogant twat but that is exactly what he wants and you can bet I will be watching the fight....

...the next day from a torrent.

I liked him at the start cause it was entertaining but I'm sick of his attitude and would love nothing more than to see Also obliterate his legs with his kicks and finish the cunt off Thumbs Up

I was really a fan of Ronda Rousey before as well but she got much too arrogant and cunty towards the last couple of fights so I was thrilled to see her get KTFO by Holly Holm who is a much more humble and likeable character.

UFC as a whole I think is an exciting sport and it's really taking off now, some great talents in there and I can see it overtaking boxing eventually.

I'm in London the night of the fight so I won't be able to torrent until Sunday night, fuck knows how I'm gonna manage to keep the spoilers away from me Pale

He's fairly normal and humble outside of the ring and press conferences from what I can see. Hardly as much of a caaaaaaaaaaaant as Floyd Mayweather Jr Razz

He's made UFC a little more exciting so I'm looking forward to that fight, though I think Aldo will win.

He's a very very good fighter, and he has an amazing amount of self belief.

But yeah, he's a wanker Laughing

But, he's interesting and is making ufc more interesting. I hope Aldo does KO him, if only to see McGregors reaction afterwards. As for who will win though, i don't know. McGregor is playing mind fuck games with Aldo, and appears to be winning, before they even get in the ring...

I also would love to see him lose, it would shut him up big style.

The only thing that makes me pause for a moment is this: Wasn't Muhammad Ali also a gigantic ego when it came to boxing? And everyone loves him now. Or did everyone think he was a knob too until Parkinson's got him?

Did anyone see the weigh in? (Skip to 32 minutes in..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTUpgAVwrXE

McGregor look's like a different bloke, if it wasn't for the ink you would swear it was someone else Laughing

i know they go to some pretty extreme lengths to cut some weight just before weigh in but surely that can't be too healthy? I know come the fight they rehydrate but jeez the man looked ill....

Also interesting to note that Aldo looked very confident, McGregor less so.

Whoever win's it should be a good fight.
Thumbs Up

And the more inclined you feel to hand over your credit card number in order to watch him get a kicking?

I don't reckon he's doing it as an act. He's just a really cocky knobhead who absolutely thrives on attention and happens to be good at fighting.

A clearly very useful human being.

McGregor is trying to get into Aldo's head before the fight so Aldo gets wound up and makes mistakes in the ring. Whether that will be the case or not is to be seen in the fight, but with McGregor taking all the media limelight people are forgetting that Aldo is far from a pushover.

I'm saying Aldo's gonna win it just on the fact he hasn't been beaten in a decade and has defended the title against many tough opponents. That, and he's a better ground fighter if he can take McGregor there.

I agree, but don't forget about Aldo's kicks - If he can land a few of them in the right spot the potential for damage is huge..

I love the amount of hate there for McGregor.
It just goes to show how good he is at acting it out and making loads of money off that plus his skill.
Being the big mouth and no skill will get you nowhere.
Being skilled and no one interest is no good either.
He put it all together really well.

If both fighters came across as friends to each other and nice lads it wouldn't draw so much viewing.

I still really don't think he was acting, it's just the way he is.

Impressive win but I still think he's a wanker.

The American UFC industry is really happy about it because he has pretty much single-handedly exported big-game UFC to Europe. Cue thousands more meatheads who define themselves by how good they can fight. How long before we have this...

Consensually. That would be "men".

Also, literal Social Justice Warriors. Karma kicks in about 1:10.

Nothing wrong with that provided the keep it in the ring IMO.

A healthier pasttime than being a neckbeard who defines themselves on how good they can fight people on a screen.

Fair enough, although on-screen fights usually don't end in things like, for example, an old mate I've not seen for years who I bumped into on Friday night, telling me how he ruined his MMA career because he got done for affray and very narrowly missed prison time. It's the newfound heady willingness to fight that bothers me. I know most will be the fighty sorts anyway, but I do think a trained ability to do it will correlate quite well with a sudden rise in some of them gladly going ahead and smashing people up. I can't really see the whole east-orient Buddhist 'always avoid violence' mantra being part of the ideology those guys signed up for.

So yeah, keep it in the ring. And if they start doing death matches... well, social darwinisn, and I'll certainly be a fan Very Happy

I don't really follow boxing / UFC / MMA, etc but when there's a lot of hype leading up or a particularly cocky fighter, I will entertain it and either stream it or download it the next day.

13 seconds Laughing Laughing Laughing

What a punch though, went down like a sack of potatoes Very Happy
