Hi all.

A friend has asked about going to 10 but has non legit 7. It should be activated really but it won't let him progress.

Anyone know a way round? I've not actually touched windows in months and can't recall a way.

The critical thing is that windows 7 thinks it's activated. If that's the case you'll end up with a legitimate windows 10 install and 'license' via either the online updater or media creation kit.

If his windows 7 isn't activated for whatever reason then you probably want to download and burn off a matching win 10 dvd/usb via the media creation kit and then reinstall that windows 7 and do the upgrade to 10 without going online (and thus likely having windows update spot that the 7 install is fishy).

Hello OP. I done the same about 3 months ago on my desktop PC and for a few other people on a laptop. Get a torrented version of windows 7 from pirate proxy install it make sure its activated and go to google type in download windows 10 it will take you to Microsoft website and I think yes its called the Microsoft creation tool its a programs that will be installed that updates everything and checks the system and will install you a genuine windows 10. So basically you get a genuine system for free.

A bit of extra time and you wont have any issues with updates and activation, remember having a hooky win 7 back in the day and 8 months after no program could re activate it for some reason so out of the window.

When I was building my new rig I got the Windows 10 Free Trial ISO file off a torrent, burned it to a USB, then after installing I activated it with a 3rd party program called kmspico and it has been working ever since and even shows that I have a "genuine" Windows 10 key.

If he decides to go that route obv back up important shit on spare drive before wiping OS drive.

I wouldn't bother trying to fix win7 to upgrade to win10 when you can scrap it and install fresh. Updating from 7 to 10 for me back on my old PC fucked up a lot of already installed programs (FL Studio/some VSTs, Photoshop CS6, Sony Vegas to name a few) but worked fine after wipe/clean install.

I've been out of the loop for about 8 months or so... I haven't even heard of windows 10 being released. Bigger issues aboard my life. Just trying to help someone. If there is an iso that's the better way for me... quicker than fucking around.
