Used you can get a GTX 780 for around £150

Dunno how good Palit are with their factory OC or aftermarket cooling but they seem to be the cheaper 780s available atm

https://www.gumtree.com/p/video-cards-sound-cards/palit-jetstream-gtx-780-less-than-12-months-use-/1146242905

Or you got other 780s on teh eBay etc

It would be nice, but there's something about the listing that doesnt sit right with me.

I get a feeling there is something wrong with the card or its a scam.

Not sure why :S

Yeah on second thoughts when he said "replaced", part of me thought he's tryna flog the damaged one now he's got the new one.

Can never know though with these bastard things, but yea 780 for £150 is doable. If not then play it safe with one of these https://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?p=3217479

Just around your price range and the 960 at 4gb will rek the 560 Ti

I just bought a(nother) 780 for £163 delivered SH, you can probably let it cheaper if you shop around I had less choice as I wanted the same manufacturer as my other card.

Fair enough, haven't actually looked at what the new cards cost. Will keep it then, it's sat in another system as a backup machine in case mine dies.

A 960 wouldn't be as good as the 780 though for gaming, if you can get a 780 first I'd get that over the 960.

What about AMD cards?

Can't find a non-suspect 780 for £150ish anywhere.

I've never been a fan of ATI/AMD cards, they caused too many problems in the past.

I had the most problems I've ever had with AMD cards, soon as I went back to Nvidia, pretty much non-existent.

I had a 5870 and a 6990 by AMD when they came out, nothing but driver issues every time they updated them.

Thought I'd do a compare... it's pretty much the same performance but then I did pay £550 for it new as it was pretty much top tog at the time.

https://gpuboss.com/gpus/GIGABYTE-GeForce-GTX-960-G1-Gaming-4-GB-vs-GIGABYTE-GeForce-GTX-680-WindForce-3X-4-GB

Based on the above, it will perform max / ultra settings on pretty much any game you throw at it, based on a 1080p resolution @ 60hz.

I've run the other 2 in SLi on BF3 (last time I benched them) and was getting 144 fps @ 144hz 1080p, which is pretty much why I bought them so I could max out the hz / fps.

Don't know what the FPS is but been playing Battlefront @ 2560x1440 @ 60hz with one card the other day, settings on ultra and no noticeable dropped frames, ran smoothly.

In terms of willy waving 3dmark scores etc I noticed a fair jump from my twin 1gb NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Frozr in SLi to a MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr V 4gb but in real terms GTA 5 etc doesnt look ~£300 better.

At the moment I wouldn't go for less than a 970 though - I've got the 2 x 1gb 560's in a drawer - you're welcome to try and flog them and add the proceeds to your budget because I cba.

Yeah 960's solid I say go for it. Yeah I'm never going back to AMD after my old 7950 died for no reason at all.

You can always just run MSI Afterburner and boost clocks anyway if its not enough (it will be though).

So... It's kinda pointless buying a gtx960 and chucking it in a pc thats rocking a 1st gen i7.

The upside is I can spend less money and still get something better than the gtx560
