I have a FZS 600, over revved it for a split second on the motorway (around 13,000) and since then the rev counter cycles through the following:
current revs
0
4,000
current revs

It goes through each stage after 3 second intervals. Also my headlight is on since I turned off the bike and the headlight switch.

Any ideas what I might have done? Bike still rides fine and sounds alright.

Thanks

That is odd, you can't possibly over rev an engine with working rev limiter.

Yes, you can over rev the engine, if you're stupid enough to down shift from 6th gear at high speed to the 1st one then let go of the clutch lever, but the engine would go bang.

It is so odd, I'm gonna go and play the: just a coincidence, card.

That is the Yamaha method of set-up reading. As I recall, the 4000rpm reading is for setting the TPS (throttle position sensor).
Might be that there is a problem with it.... or something else entirely unrelated.

thanks, not sure why the headlight is stuck "on" but the 4k fault code is the speedo sensor fault code, strange it's only started now as my speedo broke ages ago. i have a replacement sensor already, will update tomorrow.

Just a quick fix/mibby no fix.

Switch on ignition. DO not start the engine.
Rol the throttle all the way to the max. and return to zero.

Switch off ignition.

This can reset the the zreo fuel point of the fuel emc if it has been disturbed.

Another one is to disconnect the positive lead from the battery.
Touch the Poz to the Neg.
This can drain any residual current in the electrickery.

May not work but in desperation mythery can help.

You do wear a 'functioning' St. Christopher?

edit: ps How did you over rev it?

nah it's all good, turns out I finally went over 10k revs which set off the sensor fault code:

Quote:
With a non working speedo as soon as you rev over 10,000 the fault code you are seeing will be displayed and won't stop until you turn the ignition key to off.
Turn it back on and it won't show any issues- take the bike over 10K revs and it will show again.

Probably just didn't notice it before because I rarely look at the clocks now...thanks everyone who responded.

over revved when I pulled the clutch in, long day...turned the key too far for the park light and left my keys in the front door! not half as bad as when I took my car for the week because my bike wouldn't start...it will never start with the kill switch on Embarassed[/b]
