Not the kind that you find smeared across your bike after a summer blat, these ones are (nominally) domesticated.

Yes, I now have budgies. Only picked them up this afternoon, so they're still settling in (hence the blue one looking a bit puffed up and mildly indignant). The white one is bastard noisy, but has stayed roughly where he is for most of the afternoon (with the occasional flap around the cage) while the blue one has been moving around and eating a fair bit more.

I'm not sure I'd be able to get away with letting BCF name them, because BCF: my wife is all too aware of our antics.

Our pair were called Horace and Doris. However they gave my sister psittacosis thus ending her promising career as an opera singer and contortionist.

We gave them to the local old folks home. This was before the days of Dignitas.

Snowy and Bluey would be obvious and very unimaginative names.

Want to recreate the experience of owning a hamster?

Simply start urinating in the corner of your bedroom and staple your finger once a week.

I always wanted a parrot but being away for long periods I couldn't have one as I'm told they bond really tightly with one person.

Now I'm too old as they live so long it wouldn't be fair.

Are budgies fun like mini parrots or boring like ornaments?

Not at all; I'm expecting that they'll be better conversationalists than 95% of the students I deal with on a daily basis.

Mini parrots, I'm told. They're certainly cheeky little buggers, based on what I've seen on the internet.

For all the suggestions that I name one Kradmelder, no. I wouldn't want the spirit of Kradmelder settling upon it, because I couldn't deal with the incessant indignant screeching when it works out that my wife is not Aryan Laughing

I do enjoy birds, I have 5. Do you have them partially covered while they settle in? That's what I've seen recommended for getting new birds.

With some effort you'll have some cheeky friends. Good luck

No, they seem to get agitated when they're covered up during daylight hours, so we've left the cage uncovered for now. While I'm at work, I've left the radio on for them which I'm hoping should keep them entertained.

I leave the radio on for mine too.

Because they're a pair though, they should be able to entertain themselves right enough. I mainly leave the radio for my single lovebird.
