I wasn't sure if this counted, but I see Skudd had a similar one:
I dropped the bike in a parking lot, going about 1-2mph. I was turning to go around a car backing into a spot and stalled. I didn't pull in the clutch quickly enough, tipped, and just lost it after a certain point.
The crash bung did its job -- so no damage to the fairing. I have a scratch on the exhaust and the rear brake lever was bent. It was ridable, so I popped over to the dealer to ask about the cost of a new rear brake lever -- £95! ( ). They took it into the shop bent the pedal back a bit for me, so that it's more usable, at no charge and suggest I live with it as is. At that price, I agree!
No damage to me, except my ego. I never even hit the ground. Stayed standing the whole time. A nice old lady asked if I was OK and offered to help me pick up the bike. ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.

I overestimated my front brake while riding through wet roads with a combination of indecisiveness on the direction I want to go today. the main road I was on was turning 90 degrees left (blind turn) and I wanted to go straight ahead. After a late decision to go straight (i.e. turn right), I slowed down, but not enough, by using the front brake. Saw and heard the car coming from the opposite direction so I emergency braked using the front brake (again), and felt the front slide from under me.
Luckily I managed to stop before dropping the bike on it's right, but I was in the opposite lane and the oncoming car had stopped way short already. I jumped off my bike and thankfully ended up vertical on my feet. My pride and shame are going to haunt me forever |

Better add my two spills that happened within 4 weeks of each other.
No. 1 - 3 weeks ago - white van driven by some Eastern European decided to dive into a parking space on the other side of the road just as I was filtering past him. No signal, no check of his mirror. Fortunately it was slow traffic so I went with him but he was too quick and down I went - damaged fairing and bent brake pedal. He did not want to got through insurance so I coerced £350 out of him there and then. (The maximum you can get from a cash machine). Probably fractured my finger but hey ho!
No.2 - Stupid girl decided to run out in front of a van 20metres before a pelican crossing. Again filtering to the front of the queue. Saw her & tried to avoid but she was running and ran straight into the back of the bike, pushing me over. Again down I went - no extra damage from the earlier accident - no damage to me other then the usual stretched muscles. She caught the bike on her leg - blood, torn jeans and shocked! She was lucky she hit me - if it had been one of the mad Afghani delivery drivers in this part of North London she'd be either dead or in hospital with broken bones/skull.
Got back on the bike, went to my appointment and came into Central London. Encountered a driver who was on his mobile, not paying attention and 'drifted' across the road nearly into me. He is now sans a wing mirror. ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |

Nearly avoided making this years one... nearly
Let a van in, van was then turning left, I was half watching a lorry at the turning (the van was turning into), clipped the back of the van and down I go.
I hurt my little finger, bleeding quite badly actually (do I get sympathy for a finger? ), and grazed my knees so probably good thing I had my Kevlar jeans with knee pads on.
Worst is yet to come... the video from my helmet cam's corrupted!!! Dunno why, the camera froze when I tried to stop recording, the video's there (as a normal file size) but I can't open/copy it. Might have a look at recovering it later.
Only silver lining's that the van driver was cool about it, said he only had a little bit of damage to his brake light, and that he liked bikes. My bike didn't do so well, managed to ride it back but it's gonna need a bit of work

I'm not starting the thread next year, by the way, you guys.
So one of you had better remember to do it.
And do it PROPERLY, with proper numbers and ting innit
None of your slackness.
Draw straws or something, I dunno.
Just do NOT forget to put one up.
The management of the 2015 thread would like to thank you for your patronage this year. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
