954 is going on the road in Feb and I need to fit some decent tyres before then ideally (currently has some shit old Dunlops on)

Bike will be used for fast road riding, at least one trackday (most likely more) and commuting in all weather.

I've had Power 3s before and I was happy with them, so that's why they're on the list.

People keep reccomended the Metzeler Sportec M7RR, they're meant to be a really good tyre so I'm tempted to see what the hype is about.

and then we have the Pilot Road 4s, my attraction to them is that they last long, they're good for all weather riding and they meant to be good in the dry to... Question is, how would these tyres hold up on track? I've heard because of the sipes in the tyres they have a bit of flex in them when pushing them.

Anyone used the above tyres for the same purposes as me, opinions..? Would be interesting to see if anyone used the PR4s on track specifically.

You know that Aff is on commission for the sales of PR3s right? Wink

I like Pilot Powers. Had them on my ZX7R which was a track bike and they really are a decent tyre, I never hit their limits in the dry. I've got 2CTs on the ZX6R. It needed a new front tyre when I got it, could have changed the pair for something different but stuck with Pilot Powers.

But, you want something for one track day and (mostly?) commuting in all weathers. The PR3s are best for that, good grip in the wet and the dry, don't square off when commuting, would be fine on a track day.

I'm rocking the M7RRs and am well pleased with them. Particularly impressed by their performance in the wet and on shitty road surfaces.

If your doing a trackday you need sport tyres, not tourers. Otherwise you won't enjoy your track day, always worried about pushing then too hard

Ideal situation would be a second set of wheels with some Diablo Corsas or similar for the track days and during the summer.

PR3's.

I have done track days with them and they have been spot on, towards the end they were getting a little munched up at the sides but that has all scrubbed off now. Excellent value for money Thumbs Up

for all weathers id recomend the metz m7rr.
had 2 sets on my s1000r and was very happy, they feel like they got grip at all times ,wet or dry.
ive got power 3's on it at the moment(got a really good deal or i would have had m7rr again) but ive only done a few 100 miles on em and none in the wet.
also happy with grip.
both feel like they like to turn in quickly .
not done a track day on em so i have nothing to add on that.

m7rr on bmw s1000r
2500 to 3000 mile from a rear
almost double from a front.
compare with the oem pirelli drc that got about 1500 and was so shit in wet or cold it wasnt funny.
however on a warm dry day it was awesome.

I've very little idea of the pros or cons of the tyres mentioned.

However, On knowledge of the company / brand alone, id generally have confidence in anything Michelin are promoting as their top tyre.

Another PR3 tyre vote here

Gone through Bridgestone 020s (Bad in the wet), 021s (Front wears badly), Dunlop Roadsmarts (Good allrounder) and ended up on the PR3 as my tyre of choice. Not used the PR4 so I can't compare to that.

For the type of use you describe, I'd go for Bridgestone S20 EVO.

I've bought several pairs of these for different bikes. IMO they offer the same grip as Diablo Supercorsa SPs, but they also work well in the wet and cold, they last better, and they're cheap!

Like said, bt21 real good feed back horrendous front side wall wear, had Metz on before the current pr 4s ,
I think the Metz are better than the 4s the 4s do not like being pushed😀 although they are very confident feel in the wet hence a good all round tyre

If you're not intending on doing may motorway miles and are content with a 3500-4000 mile life on the rear (not riding conservatively on the road), then my shout is for the Bridgestone S20 Evos or Dunlop Sportsmarts. Had the sportsmarts on the Blade before I got rid of it. So much confidence on the road when riding fast (Did 3000 miles on it before I sold the bike and still had some meat left on the rear). My S20 Evos on the R1 lasted about 4000 miles, although a lot of that was 2 up. R1 is a front-endy bike so the wear rates were more or less the same f/r.

Decided on M7RR's, wanted to try them out anyway and everyone I've encountered who's had them seems to like them. Not the best for mileage, but I don't really mind as long as they're a decent set of rubber.

Best tyres I've ever beasted (not been on a track though) and very capable in the wet but they don't last very long if you kick the crap out of the regularly. PR's are better in the wet but I found the higher the number the quicker the wear, so PR4's for best handling but quicker wearing than PR3's.

To give some idea (different bikes will vary, especially lighter weight road race bikes) ZZR1100 - 2500/3000 miles on 2CT's, 3000 ish on PR4's, nearly 4000 on PR3's (which was almost the same as the Maxxis Superdiamond jobby that I had on the rear once, it broke out once or twice though!!!)

Had pr3's on old bike and put pr4's on now bike, but it's all year everyday riding the 4's are great, but track? I can't comment, but I'd tend to go with the pr3's for around.. unless you ride reallly really wet, like the north m1 last Tuesday!! Smile really tho worth thinking about a spare set of wheels?
