Hi, Darran here from the south east and new to the forum. I suppose you could call me a born again biker as after a good few years on sports bikes the wife banned me when my daughter was born 8 years ago. Anyhow I live less than a mile away from boxhill and Rykas which is a bit of a ride out mecca. Every weekend I hear bikes howling their way past my house calling me like some siren out of greek mythology. I couldn't take it anymore so bought a tuono and took my chances with the missus. Iv'e had a great summer on it, now laid it up for winter but the mild weather means the bikes are howling past my front room, tormenting me again. Is this normal? or do I need therapy, cheers daz

What is this 'laid up for the winter'? Are you one of those people who insist that there is a 'season'?

Is it insured? Is the weather nice? Does it have oil and petrol in?

What's stopping you joining in the howling? Neutral

Sounds like it's the pussy-whipping that is stopping him.

I love all the blokes that think they are immune to pussy whipping, and how every male on bcf would deny any possible hint that they would listen to a wife/gf or take notice of what they think in the slightest.

I suppose it's good for the cave man inside you to think you only ever do anything because you think fuck yes, and no one had or can influence or persuade you otherwise. If you think how many pussy whipped bcf members there are, then out there in the real world it's very common place and a significant number across the UK!

Hopefully I've just followed std bcf protocol with yet another fine display of way off topicness on what was a genuine thread.

The trick is to find a lady that won't dictate what you can and can't do with your life. Thumbs Up

Also, OP "laid up" you know it's 15 degrees outside today right?

Have you tried coaxing it out of its straw filled box with a saucer of warm petrol?

I went out yesterday morning for a spin

My excuse was needed cash and had to deliver a card

Unfortunately none of the local cash machines seemed to be working resulting in a 40 mile spin before breakfast

If having a bike 'laid up for winter' is, as you imply, torture then it's entirely self inflicted so no sympathy from this corner.

Why is it laid up? Did something special break and you have to wait months for it to be delivered?

Your missus does know that you are statistically much more likely to come a cropper in 'summer' doesn't she?

Oh, lastly - riding season? pffft.

On track to be the warmest December on record. I think we've literally had one cold day. Yes it's normal to miss riding when there's no reason for you not to be riding Smile

Pack the daughter off to the grandparents.

Give the wife a bar of chocolate, a vibrator and a box of batteries.

Go out on the bike.

Not really and It'd be a waste of money. Wink

Some people ride all year long, some have a winter break. I used to ride all year long, or at least before it was snowing. But nowadays I just can't really enjoy riding in the temperatures around the zero. You can't really push a ''Superbike'' as you'd push it in summer and that's what makes it boring for me. Well that and the fact, that there's already gravel on the road where I live. Thumbs Up

If the roads, where you live, are dry and clean, then go and have fun. Thumbs Up Razz

darran. It's all about enjoying it mate. There's not many that ride all year because they want to, some have no choice. My bike has sat in the garage since about July. That said I've not been in the UK for any significant amount of time until yesterday.

Unless the North drys up in the next couple of weeks It'll probably stay there until next MOT and I'll continue to give the same same level of acknowledgement as ever to anyone that comments on my choice.

I'm not having a go about making a choice not to ride, but moaning about making that choice is just stupid.

If you feel that you only want to drag your bike out on 17th July and 12th of August, then have at it - just don't whinge on 26th September that your bike is 'laid up'.

I don't make a choice to 'ride all year', in the same way I don't make a choice to impose an arbitrary 'riding season' on myself - if I want to take the bike instead of one of the cars then sun/rain/snow/wind isn't a valid reason for me not to. If I want to ride I ride, if I want to drive or have too much stuff to carry then I drive.

Hello Darran and welcome to the BCF.

You need to ride your bike mate. The weather is nice and warm. I have removed my muffs for gawd sake Laughing

The way I deal with my missus which BTW also hate bikes, is I tell her that I am going to see some new mates with bikes and drink some tea/coffee. Then I go for ride out.

Edit: just spoken with my missus, she told me the best advice is to sell your bike Praying Shifty

Laughing

I don't mind a bit of rain, but find when the water level gets up to my chest, my jacket tends to leak a little at the zip Neutral
