Hi Guys,

I'm trying to remove the cylinder head on my Aprilia RS 125 and I've managed to get 3 of the bolts loose but one just isn't moving. I have not rounded the bolt off trying too much to get it loose with an allen key.

What's the best way to remove this?

Thanks in advance,

Well a lot of others have weighed in with examples of cameras you should buy, and there is some helpful comments, but I may add, more of how your shots will come out are down to yourself than the camera you hold.
You give a pro a point and shoot, and he will give you some amazing shots, but from a technical standpoint I would ask, how far would you be standing from the road when taking these shots?

As unless you're by the roadside, I recommend getting a lens that can go up to 300mm (it does depend on the camera the lens fits onto, as full frame professional DSLR's with a 300mm lens, is not the same as a low end DSLR which 'crops' the image by a factor of x1.5, and in effect increases the range of your lens, but not to complicate matters too much)
I would strongly suggest looking into the focal length before buying, this effects the distance you can focus from foreground to background, and also the 'zoom' range.
handy article here https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-lenses.htm
There is a calculator thing on there that tells you what length lens you will need based on distance from, and size of subject.

When it comes to lenses on cameras, a key thing to remember, the lower the mm value (eg 28mm) the wider the shot, the higher the mm value (eg 300mm) the further you can take a photo of something, to put it into context, at 300mm you could easily take a shot of a bird cropped tight from 30ft for example, but at 28mm that bird will be a spec and all you will see is the trees around it.

In short tho, for the pics you want to take, I'd say the lens it has is more important than the camera, buy your camera to budget, stick with a brand you trust, personally anything Canon, Nikon, Fuji, you can't go wrong Sigma do a few 75-300mm lenses to fit a few brand cameras, don't get stuck with the wrong lens, buy an interchangeable DSLR one Smile

Spoiler alert - bought a VFR 750, did 120+ today through North Yorkshire Middle Finger

Hi all

Small time lurker here, i'm considering doing my CBT on my Birthday in January if it aint snowing/icy etc. with a view to doing my full DAS in the summer if I decide I like being on two wheels.

I aim to rent a 125 for a bit and practice on weekends, maybe do a commute or two to work, sell my hairdresser MX5 and swap for a 125. I've heard lots of praise for the Varadero, but also like the look of the Hyosung Comet GT125

Not after a speed machine, just something to build my confide ...

Having spent the morning wandering aimlessly round Paignton Green at the annual BMAD bash I've had a sudden urge to sort out the old girl.
Some twerp streetfightered her - although in my book it takes more than throwing a bike down the tarmac, throwing away the broken bits and calling it a streetfighter!!https://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r601/mentalboy1/P5050401.jpg
So here goes. I'm in serious need of a good talking to/advice. In order to sort out the old girl I'll need quite a bit of moral support. Funds are just about non existent, so my local breaker will be seeing a lot more of me and I can't put anything too swanky on her.
I believe that because this is my first post I can't get any pics up, so they'll come later, assuming the mods (that meant something else in my heyday!) don't take umbrage!
So what have we got?
1 slightly polished engine (in great running order, which is always a bonus!)
1 polished straight frame
A good set of Michelin wellies and a decent chainset
A set of wide bars and pretty much standard periphals.

She was in one piece but thanks to my mates RRX dropping a shell bearing we ran his bike with my lump all last year, so I've now got the lump languishing on the bench.
Initial thoughts are to chop off the pillion, thus reducing the chances of throwing unsuspecting members of the fairer sex down the road and attending to the rather shabby headlight arrangement and finding some half decent chrome clocks for her.
I'm hoping to sweet talk my good friends at VonSeti into producing something stylish on which to perch and show my tailfeathers.
She'll get a nice new metallic black/silver coat and then I'll start thinking about shock, swingarm and headset arrangements once she looks like a bike again.
Whilst I'm waffling away I've got a quick question to finish with. Take one RRX engine with duff shells/crank, mix with one RRW engine with damaged camshaft, give it a good shake etc nothing too fancy and result was 176mph and still rising. I know that clocks can sometimes be a tad over-enthusiastic and this beast has no limiter on her but has anyone played this game with a GPS on board and logged just how much out Honda's clocks tend to be ?

Things I need right now: tire pressure, oil type, any experiences with this bike.

Thanks.

My first post was almost certain to be something inane and pointless, because I had specialised in that LONG before I arrived here.

Therefore not really worthy of reposting in this thread.

Please point out any dangerous faults inherant with Chinese bikes that can be backed up with factual evidence.

The right hand brake/exhaust mounting bracket on the Houniao HN125-8 (aka Haotian aka Lexmon Vixen HT125-8) is made of a brittle alloy that is prone to cracking from pressure from the brake return spring. This has been reported by five owners that I know of. In the worst case I've heard of, the whole exhaust dropped off and scattered the bike down half a mile of dual carriageway.

Also, the sidestand cutoff switch has a connector block placed right underneath the bike which is prone to corrosion. If it's not sorted, the engine can just cut out suddenly while riding. I'd call that dangerous.

Now, I mention this because this is one of the better Chinese-branded[*] bikes, with a few well known and relatively easily sorted issues, and a strong and supportive owner community. Not all Chinese-branded bikes are the same. I wouldn't touch a Kinroad, or anything remotely sporty or motocross styled, for example, and not even all of the CG and CM125 clones are equal. Identical-looking bikes with different parts and quality standards are churned out by different factories, and rebranded at the drop of a hat. Yes, frames crack, pushrods bend, bearings fail early, wiring works loose, and nuts and bolts fling off randomly unless you spring-washer-and-Loctite them.

So, if the question is "Should I buy a Chinese-branded bike", I'd say "No, but..."

One problem is that they're so cheap that they appeal to the silent mass of thrash-it-then-trash-it riders with no budget for or interest in maintenance or troubleshooting. They buy the cheapest bike they can find in their neck of the woods, cane it until it falls apart, then the first thing you hear from them is about their crap unreliable bike.

But if you do your research, if you pick the right bike, and get a good 'un, and are aware of the potential issues, and take the time to sort and keep on top of them, then some of them are just fine for commuting, or pleasure jaunts.

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/__DYtEEjm5wE/Sm89ZjqFBiI/AAAAAAAAAGw/jqB5XFFT0ns/s400/applecross-pass.jpg

That's a Chinese bike half way up the 20% gradient Applecross Pass, loaded down with gear. The only things that have gone wrong with it (so far) are as a result of my insatiable urge to fiddle with it, until I break it. Funnily enough, as I was tailgating a Jeep up the road, I passed a GS 1150 doing the recovery-truck-of-shame trip down it.

So they're not for everyone, but if you view them as an upgradable collection of parts, some of them can be a viable choice as a commuter or starter bike.

[*] I say "Chinese-branded" because if you buy a Japanese- or European- branded 125, odds are it'll be made in China, India or Brazil anyway, from the same parts as a Chinese-branded bike that costs 1/4 to 1/3 the price.
