So some signs have gone up yesterday proclaiming a speed limit of 20mph on Old St which is a busy main road through central London. These signs are interspersed with 30mph signs as well so all a bit confusing.

Anyone heard anything about this?

There shouldn't be 30mph signs at all as it's a built up area. Are the 20 signs red ringed ones or are they rectangular 20 zone signs?

this may explain it Thumbs Up

Quote:
Eight million people are already living under authorities where 20mph limits are in operation such as Liverpool, Bristol, York, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and parts of London. Islington in north London is set to become an entirely 20mph zone by March, with the only roads excluded from the scheme those managed by Transport for London.

A better way to engender contempt for speed limits I cannot imagine.

First question would be "Where's your Traffic Order?"

There are 30 signs as all the roads off Old St are 20mph zones.

They are full size white circles with red borders signs with additional repeaters.

Not advisory by the signs that have gone up.

The camera on Old Street east from the roundabout has never flashed when going 30 past it since it turned into a 20 zone - but today my gf observed both a bike and a cab getting flashed.

So beware of the cameras in silly 20 zones (i.e. roads not on red routes that used to be 30); it remains to be seen if they've turned down the limit on them all, or just a few.

I've been double flashed by the one on Highbury Grove a couple of times so was wondering the same thing, no ticket came through so I'm wondering if they're ticketing no one, or people doing 30+ (I used to slow down to 30 as this didn't set them off).

They've been active at 20mph for at least 6 months and the westbound camera was even replaced and new road markings applied in late sep early oct.

There isn't a camera east of the roundabout or at least wasn't this morning and that is still a 30mph limit, do you mean west?

Are people being issued tickets? I recently did a speed awareness course and they said most people on the 20mph course are caught on Tower Bridge.

Sorry I meant west, yes, and going west. The last time I went through it was probably November (at about 30, same as I always do). I changed my commute to go via City Road a few months ago.

I'm fairly sure that when I was doing some Christmas shopping, I came back via Old Street, and the eastbound camera didn't flash me that time either. There may have been queuing cars though.
