i remember being a similar thread about 5 years ago, and everyone said tdr's are all fucked by now, so god knows what they are like now
and going by rgv prices such as this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272089050812?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
You would be better buying one that's mot'd and ready to go as i can't see you losing money ____________________ '00 Aprilia RS50 > '92 Honda CG > '99 Yamaha Fazer > '91 Yamaha RXS > '79 Suzuki X5 > 01' Honda Cg > 07' Honda Cg > 82' Kawasaki Z200 > suzuki gsxr 400 gk73a > honda vfr 400 NC30> Yamaha RD350 YPVS F2 > Kawasaki ZZR 600 D1 > Yamaha TZR 250 2MA >Suzuki TL1000R > Yamaha TDR250 > Honda 929 blade > Suzuki SV1000 > Honda H100

With asking prices as they are now, you can afford to pay someone to do a good few pistons and still be better off. |
Why do you think they command good money?
Why do you think they are desirable?
It's the only 2 stroke twin to put into a factory dual purpose/supermoto chassis. If it wasn't for some odd Italian (Gilera?) thing, it would have been the first factory supermotard too.
Whilst I understand the comments about not buying a bike as an investment, I don't feel half as guilty when they sit in the garage not even road legal, all the time they are not losing money.
None of them are worth that much, maybe the 11,000 mile TDR, but I doubt any of my bikes will be going down in value now.
3 X TZR's, TDR, NSR125, YZF-750R
I'll be flogging the NSR when the weather improves to make funds for my campervan conversion, maybe one of the TZR's too if I get the time to give it a tidy up. The TDR will be the last to go even if I had to though! ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

3x tzr 250's?
onto the point i would love to own a tzr250 if you ever decide to part with one at a time i actually have some money do let me know! |
One is my old race bike with a File tuned motor, the other is my 2MA main road bike with 1KT light units fitted (the flush indicators as part of the tail unit).
The third is a blue 1KT Jap import (Same as 2MA but with the flush lights as standard). This blue one will make a nice restoration as the frame, pipes and fairing lowers/uppers are in very good standard condition. It just needs the engine looking at/refreshing, the tank repainting and the seat unit tidying up.
I've also got a spare Graham File tuned motor (to fit to my main road bike) and a load of standard pipes in the loft! ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
