Yamaha tdr 250

Have got a craving for a tdr 250,would have to sell my mint street triple r .
Any opinions on these?, do like tinkering and two smokes

I've got one, as have many of the people I know with TZR's. I'll never sell this bike, it's the one which will always be a keeper.

It reminds me of being a teenager. Think DTR125 with a 45-50bhp TZR250 YPVS motor in it. It's one of those truly fun bikes.

If you buy a good one now, it's very unlikely to lose any value and the engine is pretty much the same as the 2MA/1KT parallel twin TZR's so quite reliable as 2 strokes go.

Plenty of tuning options due to the engine (and bike in a couple of cases) being raced in the Yamaha Past Masters BMCRC class.

Always liked the idea; but not at Today's prices; bikes are supposed to be *fun* not an investment to my mind.

Instead, I'd go for my usual answer for a toy-bike; 250cc MX bike with SM 'conversion'. Peaky 2 stroke delivery, less weight and probably more power than the TDR for a lot less cash.

i remember being a similar thread about 5 years ago, and everyone said tdr's are all fucked by now, so god knows what they are like now

I'd quite agree if we're talking £1k for a tatty one or £2k for a good one.

With asking prices as they are now, you can afford to pay someone to do a good few pistons and still be better off.

I like the Fast bike and the Freestyle even more than the TDR looks wise. The Nordwest was weird but cool and I quite like cast wheeled non competition styled SM bikes like the Cagiva Supercity for example. That bike was just about the outrageous look of an urban street hooligan machine and the TDR was the same idea too.

The best SM bike I've ever seen (shows how much I'm not into the competition look or ability of light and serious machinery like G mentions) was a Suzuki DR800 Big, with 17" rims and a remade lower frame cradle with an RG500 lump in it.

Hi

I had a go on a Nordwest many years ago. Think they managed about 105 true top speed, but 100 was a doddle. Astounding brakes (it was almost like the top speed was limited by wind pressure on the brake lever). I would like one.
