I was trying to perfect wheelying the SZR today, took this footage.

At about 1 min into the video I manage to get a 1.1 second wheelie, that was the best though Crying or Very sad I got one really sweet one but didnt have the camera on at the time.

Pedestrians eventually thwarted my session.

I think by the end of the session my clutch was slipping because my last 10 or so attempts (not on camera) i was really giving it some stick but it wasnt lifting. Ill adjust it later for more bite.

Ive just been out to the same place to do some more practice, got a few good ones up (by my standards).

Still havent "kept one up" so to speak, but my percentage of wheelies which get above 6 inches is now getting higher, so...

Some slightly chavish kids about 15 yrs old came past and I showed them a few wheelies, then raced one of them on his pushbike lol.

They all agreed to get RS50's instead of scooters Laughing

Heh heh, nice one. Sounds just like my bike when standard.

Your bike is what, pretty much the same as mine in performance/weight terms isn't it? Mine being an er5.

In which case, you're far better than me Laughing I can feel my suspension ride when I try but don't know if the wheels off the ground. I suspect sometimes it is but I could be mistaken. I'll try a similar set up to yours.

Thats a good camera angle, would never have thought about that either. Cheers Very Happy

Yeah the bike is almost exactly the same power as an ER5 but quite a bit lighter (159kg dry).

I was clutching it up. It seemed to come up easiest at about walking pace, anything much above that and it just wouldnt rise somehow Confused

I've got a FEW clips of a szr660 honking it up on the "125 vid" thats on here.

They seem to be easy to wheelie and my my mate said the wheelie ability was the only thing that stopped him selling it as the can prevents and decent cornering fun.

Yeah ive seen that clip of it wheelying off a roundabout. AFAIK that is the only other video on the internet of an SZR660!

It's probably just that im new to wheelying that I cant get it up properly. Ill try again for a few good sessions and see how it goes.

Don't even think about trying that until you're very good at wheelies as it'll come right up very quickly. On smaller bikes (125cc and 50cc's) its different as they have a lot less power, on a big bike thats a very good way to end up on your arse with the bike on top of you.

Are those first gear power wheelies? Video is lots easier for learning wheelies with as you can look at the video rather than just going off the "fuckkkkk that was high" and you then see it on video and it wasn't. Doh!

"I got one really sweet one but didnt have the camera on at the time. " Always the way isn't it. Razz

www.fuelmedia.org - the 550 meg 45 minute video download - someone is full on stunting an SZR with no problems.

Cheat wheelies Wink Well, whatever works - but what others have said is a fact, these skills won't transfer to a larger bike.

Loply - watch your video and look at your head. Looks like you're throwing your weight forward as you slip the clutch? That'll hinder you. Also, the clutch slip sounds like the kind used to squeeze a two-stroke into the power band.

Experiment with bolder clutch slip. I would have the clutch in longer (using one finger) and let the revs rise a lot higher before letting it out smoothly and rising the revs still higher - and leaning slightly back. Works for me - but you've got to go with what works for you. Smile

How can i be wrong then?

I said 'try doing it from standstill, you will get a lot higher' then you replied 'as it'll come right up very quickly'

Idiot, think about what your saying before you post it.

I never said that you were wrong. I said that its not a good idea on a big bike until you've very good at wheelies. On your 50/125 its not a problem but try it on a big bike and you'll be on your arse with the bike on top of you.

Not really a very good way to learn to wheelie on big bikes, it's a good way to learn how to not to wheelie though.

Just practice, practice and more practice... practice is the only way, there is no miracle wheely-button... Laughing

Will say it doesn't sound like you're revving it enough and definetly looks that you're not giving it enough throttle... don't clutch in, rev like mad, dump clutch though.. slip the clutch out fast, but gently accelerate as you do it.. much smoother than dumping the clutch and more controllable.. when you first learn to do this though be careful as it's harder on your clutch - once you get the technique it's fine though Wink

'I never said that you were wrong' - well you voted disagree, which tends to mean you think i was wrong.

I didn't claim it was the best way though, i set it will get you higher.

It means I disagree with what you said which was try doing it from a standstill.

Other thing with wheelies is when you think and it feels like the front is really high its not and you can go a lot higher. Smile

Will the bike not power wheelie?

Im not sure if it power wheelies but Ive been told it will. I tried it a few times and it certainly felt like it would (put it in the powerband, slapped it shut then slapped it back open)... But the ground was bad and the rear wheel just slipped.

Thanks for the video link yams.

If you dont shut up wingeing we can all vote "disagree" if you want because its very bad Idea to do "off the line " clutch wheelies on a big bike if you are a beginer.

Yea ok on an RS50, they have piss poor acceleration power so you basically need to red line it in first, Throw every little bit of weight over the back, Pull on the bars like hell and clutch it and then hope It comes up. If the front wheel does loose contact with the griound, Its usually back down again within a few seconds as the weight of an RS is WAY too heavey for a 50cc IMO!

Now a Scooter. Well thats a different story Wink
