So, I've been looking for a way to attach my helmet to my bike.

There is apparently something called a helmet lock that attaches to the metal ring on your chin strap, but I fail to see how someone can't just come and cut the chin strap off and make away with your helmet. It's made of fabric.

The only way I found works for full helmets and it involves running a lock through the visor.

However, with a modular helmet where (as far as I know) you could remove the front part pretty easily, that won't work.

So, is there another way?

Thanks.

Why would they cut the strap? They'd be left with a lump of useless plastic!

I use my helmet lock as a last resort, but I've used it many times in places where you may expect some sort of tampering and have yet to come back to any sign that somebody has tried.

Probably pikey pedboi who doesnt care about straps, he can get his mitts on a £400 Shoei without paying for it, pose with it resting on his forehead like a twat to be the envy of his pedboi mates and old bill dont care/wont look close enough to inspect whether hes wearing it strapped up or not.. Never heard of anyone getting their helmet nicked from the helmet lock, though I suppose thats not to say it couldnt happen.

Topbox is probably your best bet if youre really concerned. When I had a flip up helmet and before I had a topbox I looped the rear wheel chain through the chin bar with no problems. I doubt anyone goes out of their way to nick unattended helmets and seeing one chained up would be enough to deter any opportunist thieves.

Why don't you just sew on a new strap?

Bet they'll just cut the strap for the fun of it.

Put mine in a top box.

They don't need a reason to steal or do damage, a top box is the best bet.

Top box is too ugly.

What about some kind of cut-proof metal mesh that goes over the helmet and is locked to the seat?

I've got a bunch of ideas, none of which seem to have ever been tried by anyone which is odd.

I've left my lid attached to my bike using the lid lock and strap many times in liverpool city centre.

Never had a single problem.

Where do you live? Surely it can't be any worse than up here.

Because it wouldn't be much good in a crash. They're usually rivetted into the shell IIRC.

If only somebody had already thought about that, developed it and put it on sale for several years. Thinking

It's very uncommon for someone to fuck with your helmet. I think you're worrying unecessarily.

If someone was going to cut the strap to nick your helmet, they are the sort of idiot who would nick anything else on the bike too.

In that case, not even a top-box would stop them.

As Temeluchus will confirm, even proper, brand-name topboxes can be sprung open with a light thump. If, to pick an example totally at random, your friend had the indecency to crash his bike and be ambulanced to A&E with a broken leg leaving your carry-out locked in his panniers.

Just get a cheap bike lock and stick it under the seat, lock it through the visor and get on with life. Don't like leaving them on the floor secured with a chain through the bike wheel, if it rains they suck up water and I worry about random dogs peeing on it. I've left my lid hung over the mirror on many occasions and never had it nicked.

Yeah, but they're not cutting the entire thing off - just a portion, which any self-respecting tailor could stitch back on in a jiffy.

It's like tying your bicycle up to a tree with pantyhose, and yet everyone is telling me it's safe..

Yes, I saw that one, but it's not what I'm looking for.

1.) It's a bag, which means you have to take it out and put your helmet in every time you leave the bike and then also tie it to the bike somehow. Tedious.
2.) Those 'exomesh' cables are certainly not 'cut-proof' as they claim. I need something that is at least twice as thick so that any would-be thief would need to carry around a meter long bolt cutter to get away with it.

I can't lock it through the visor because I have a modular helmet and as far as I know, the visor is removeable.

Experienced "biker's", huh? Yeah, clearly. LMFAO.

Mind you, I have no issue with anyone in this thread. Mostly good advice from solid rider.

What sort of helmet are we talking about? A flip front helmet doesn't detach. Are you thinking about one of those poser lids that are essentially open face with a purely cosmetic chin cover on them?

Which part of what others in this thread have said implied they lack experience on the road?
A "LMFAO" of derision may aswell be childish name calling ...you poopy face!!

I'm not sure if anybody has already suggested this so i'll just throw it out there.

Why not? because it's not as simple as sewing on a new strap.

I suggest you watch this as an example of when a strap fails

There's something about watching that crash helmet rolling down the grass that i find difficult to watch...

Is there a convenient metal tab to hook the d-rings or still fastend strap onto consealed under the seat? Or a little hook thing that fits the main key that might be part of the seat release?

Personally i hate these these things as helmet is likely to get full of water or bashed by first inattentive goon.

Hard luggage, cheap alarm that goes off when you give the bike a hard thump or take helmet with you. Nice padded helmet bags are a thing.
