Windows 8 will reach end of support next week on Tuesday, so all users who are still running it must upgrade to 8.1 as soon as possible.

Not that it affects me as I'm running 8.1 and resisting 'upgrading' to 10 but Shocked 8 is little more than three years old, at least XP had over 13 years before they dropped support.

How long before they quit 8.1? FFS

I suspect that they're going to attempt to move to a bleeding Edge support system. Take the auto-updates or you'll get, at best, a few security dongles shoved in the most gaping holes.

Windows 8.1 is not great either. My wife's got it on her laptop and I really don't like all these tile sh|te.

On my desktop PC I had Windows 7 for quite a while but then accepted free upgrade to Windows 10 and I've never looked back since. I think Windows 10 is really good.

Move to an always-updating subscription model.

License it for a year or so, then start the nags and gradual downgrading. Nice data you've got here, it'd be a shame if anything... happened... to it. Ransomware.

8.1 + Classic Shell is quite tolerable as long as all your legacy programs or games work OK with it.

If Windows subscription is the future then Microsoft can fuck right off.

Win 8.1 with Classic Shell was perfect. I never had an issue, worked a treat and I never saw the shitty tiles screen.

In other news, designers / developers rejoice, Internet Explorer 8,9 & 10 are officially at the end of life cycle too. No more patches for them and constant nag messages to upgrade.

Realistically, they will be around for years more to come but it's a start Thumbs Up

Asking for IE6 compatibility now, is like asking if you can put racing tyres on your horse's cart.
