Frame polishing

First of all......... *YAWNS* I'm up stupid late because I have been working on the bike.
It's my half term now so I want to polish the frame and swingarm whilst I don't need to use the bike.
I found a pretty good guide on www.uponone.com and have started my swingarm. It's bloody hard work but I've done the worst of it (the swingarm anyways )
I know its not a mirror finish yet but I have a whole week to finish it so yer don't start slagging it off.

Pictures are naff, can't see anything helpful. I'd say it's better to remove the swingarm to polish it, frame is ok as it's accessable enough. Also don't lacquer it after you've polished or it'll tarnish the finish, apparently hairspray can provide it with some protection without dulling, but i've not done it myself so can't guarantee that.

To be honest, you're probably better off using a drill and mop with wax abrasive compound, it's easier and probably cheaper than buying endless wet'n'dry, £10 the kit cost me from the NEC (https://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk)

I have used a dremmel with the polishing heads to buff up any parts that needed it.

I think it will be difficult to get a consistent finish without taking the part off. There's a danger of having a patchy finish that actually looks far worse than before you started. Sorry.

I have to protest about the camcorder thing, It's yams fault. He always pulls the wheelie right infront of you (rather than down the road a little way away) so its hard to try and capture it! ask hustler.

are you puting laquer on all the polished parts if your not your wasteing your time..polishing anything..have fun

No I'm not going to lacquer it, Just a good polish with some autsol.

you must must must must laquer anything you are polishing because if you are useing this bike for general use its going to fade very fast and you will have to polish it everday..where as you laquer it you polish it once a week.

btw the swing arm is the dirtyiest part of any bike...have fun

If you're polishing aluminium alloy parts, bear in mind that the shiny surface is the unoxidised aluminium alloy underneath. A dull protective layer of aluminium oxide forms over the surface quite rapidly, stopping any further corrosion.

Hence, without putting an airtight coat (eg laquer) over the surface, it will oxidise and go dull and boring, like an aluminium pan.

O man, that's gonna be so much hassle to keep shiney.

It's bad enough cleaning the damn things, let alone polishing . Have (hours of) fun mate.
