Perfect conditions for a ride today

I usually ride all year round commuting to work etc, but hurt my arm a while back, so I've been stuck in a car for three months whilst it gets better. last weekend I had to buy a new battery for my bike as after the three months it was dead. I then noticed a nail in my rear tyre so thought I would get that fixed. Once I had taken the wheel off I noticed no brake pad material left front or rear!

An Internet deal I spotted when buying brake pads meant I've replaced my rear tyre with some modern radial Michelin sporty thingy rather than the stock Avon Bias Ply it came with. Lots of grease on the chain and sprockets and a liberal coating of ACF-50, oil change and I hit the (slightly salty, very greasy) roads. Wife even surprised me with nice thick winter riding gloves (That I can't bend or feel my fingers in).

Holy sh*t, What a dodgy riding combination!

Mind you, after an hour, I came back with a big smile on my face. It's good to be back

The rear spun up twice and slipped out once for me this morning. Once I arrived to where I was going I could investigate so I was thumbling around in my tank bag with half frozen fingers looking for my depth gauge eventually found it and discovered the rear only has 1mm. I phoned and ordered a PR3.

On my return jounerny I took it very steady.

I also opted for my thickest pair of gloves today, they're not my go to glove but after using my regular RST blades recently my hands have been numb by the end of the commute and well I'd had enough of that.

Personally only went out for a local ride to a shop and back but enjoyed it. Roads where slippy but I enjoy riding in challenging conditions for whatever reason, not that I was out for to long mind, enjoyed the warm when I got back.

It is just coming into my favourite riding season as roads dry up rapidly with the strengthening sun.
Just have to be aware that clear skies and sheltered damp back roads = icy patches risk - even when it seems on the mild side ground temps soon drop to freezing.

I took the car today because it was a damp evening followed by a freezing night and the Council has blown its gritting budget on interpreters for orphaned refugee kittens. Learned that lesson a few years back when I binned the '305 just round the corner from Château Borg on ice that was blacker than a traffic copper's heart.

Had a bit of a slide on a roundabout that I'm pretty sure would have seen me in the Spill Counter if I'd Tractored it, so I guess that's a win.

Although in the morning on few places the sun was so low I was not able to see anything for few seconds even with the dark internal sun visor down. I mean on the motorway, and there may have been or not, three digit speeds

In the morning it was very difficult to see ahead, going up a hill directly into the horizon at 8:45.

On the way home I had a wobble after slipping into the gutter when blinded by some cunt who turned their lights onto dipped after passing.

Two cars in the hedge rows yesterday on the way to dropping me sprogs off at school. One was a lovely big beemer 4x4 that had slipped into an 8 foot deep ditch (on a straight stretch in a 30 - not sure how that had happened), and a white van t'other side of a deceptive bend in a 60. Tractor was already there hauling it out. First frosty morning in a month or more and bam. Dudes're eating hawthorn. By the afternoon though it was game on and so I rode out. No dry lines and cold hands, but still great to get a few miles in.
