Weird enough to be legit. They are basically describing a wire saw and they aren't toys to fuck around with.

Wiki A single-strand saw can be roughened to be abrasive, abrasive compounds can be bonded to the cable, or diamond-impregnated beads (and spacers) can be threaded on the cable

Wiresaws are very versatile. Here's some stuff I've cut.

Steel-cased concrete pile

6 ton lump out of a 1m thick concrete wall to create an access into a chamber

300 ton jetty section

Mate of mine goes touring on his own, he has cancer (an is on his way out) so basically thought why not...

He was talking the other day about in Columbia (or somewhere else exotic) they string kites up with glass glued onto the string to get motorbikers throats Shocked

He reckoned the locals fix bars to the screens of their bikes to cut/ push the strings out the way

**edit**

just read through the link, which basically says all i have just posted Doh

A friend of mine encountered a stray kite on the M2 at motorway speeds in his GT86. It cut a slot right the way through the front bumper and wrapped itself around suspension components
