Question on NCD and short-term insurance

Hi all,

I have a question on NCD. I currently have two bikes:
1) Insurance expires in March, after which I’ll have 1 year of NCD.
2) Just bought and insured, no NCD.
In case you’re wondering, I bought (2) now because a mate was moving abroad and gave me a very good price.

I want to sell (1) in or after March, because I want to acquire 1 year of NCD, cancel the insurance on (2) and reinsure (2) with 1 year of NCD (much cheaper). Also, I expect/hope that selling a bike when spring is approaching should be easier.

My question is: can I do this only if I sell bike 1 on the very last day of the insurance? If I sell it, say, a week before, will the insurance not give me 1 year of NCD?

Alternatively, do you know of an insurer offering short term insurance (say, a month only)? Or I could insure bike 1 again for another year, then cancel the policy when I sell it, but in this case it’s important to find an insurer that does pro-rata refunds and doesn’t charge outrageous cancellation fees.

You can sell the bike when you want and let the insurance run out but you're gambling that the person you sell it to doesn't do anything stupid like crash it. I believe with your insurance policy still covering the bike, you run the risk of being liable - even if he has insurance on it.

If you sell the bike and cancel the insurance, I don't think they will give you your NCB.

Short term insurance used to be a thing, but I don't see it anymore for bikes. For Cars stupid money per day.

Personally I would of sold bike one and transfered insurance onto bike two
You may of had to pay an admin fee for changing over the details
