Bike insurance is INSANE.. or am I?

It's not just about thefts. It's also about the potential cost of repairs. A fairing panel on an R1 will cost more than most used supermoto's on the road.

Naked bikes tend to be cheaper to insure for that reason. That's why some scooters have higher insurance than proper bikes. Plastic is expensive you know!

so true didnt think of that but that only account for fully comp insurance, if your third party fire and theft and u drop your bike your insurance company wont pay out for new panels they'll only pay if your fully comp, which again dont make sence because like you said naked bikes are cheaper to insure my 1st bike was a honda hornet and was £120 a year but was quicker than my gsxr so by all means a quick bike and capable of dangorus speeds but i only ever insure my bikes tpft that why i say its mad

I'd imagine supermotos are crashed more frequently than sports bikes though, being hooligan bikes n that. I'd also imagine they are stolen more, insurance is a mysterious game.... Understandable if it's not TP insurance as it would cost more to fix but makes no sense when it's TP.

This is stating the obvious but it seems to be necessary: a litre sports bike is more likely than a 400 cc supermoto to hit a car at 100 mph, resulting in £500,000 payouts for injuries to the car's occupants and/or a £100,000 payout for a written off luxury car.

I'd be interested to know the statistics behind third party injuries due to motorcycle incidents, how often that actually occurs to warrant the price difference.

Porn, what porn? Surely you only use incognito to secretly buy presents for your better half?? Shhh!

It may seem counter-intuitive, but comprehensive insurance can sometimes actually be cheaper than 3rd party - give it a go, see if it helps.

You could try some of the tips listed for car insurance here, I assume the pricing will be similar across car and bike insurance:

Also consider that it could be an accumulation of factors - you're young (adds a bit), you live in London (adds a bit), you have a prior ban (adds a lot I'd guess) ...

Any help or thoughts appreciated guys! London isn't looking good for me long term if I can't get a bike haha =P

Do price comparison websites check your claim history?
I have just purchased my first motorbike insurance.
I had to call them to go through the details, and it turns out there is an at fault claim registered against me which shouldn't be there.
I have had no insurance claims since December 2008, so my record should be clean.
I was knocked off my bicycle 15 months ago, and I successfully claimed costs because it was determined that the driver was at fault.
However I just found out that it is registered against me as an at fault claim in a car I was driving, despite the fact that I haven't owned a car since 2012. Clearly I need to ring the drivers insurance!
I wonder if this is what is pushing my quotes for car insurance up, it still seems very high for a 31 year old with a clean licence for 8 years and clean insurance record.

You or whichever insurer spacked that up will need to get your details corrected on the CUE database.

I'd be firing in a complaint, clearly headed as such, to the insurer that messed it up, asking them how they want to pay the costs of your increased premiums.
