Average time go take the DAS

Hi guys, how long did it take for you to get your licence, from the first day of course to having the license in your hand.
I am starting next week, im too impatient lol!

How does your bike school run DAS?

With mine the usual was three weeks (ignoring theory) - first weekend CBT, second weekend MOD1 training and a rideout, MOD1 done as a couple of hours warmup then test one day during the week, next weekend MOD2 rideout then warmup and test during the week.

It was possible to compress it down and do MOD1 and MOD2 in the same week, but they tended to suggest you didn't as that puts more pressure on you and gives less practice time. You could also do training during the week if weekends didn't work for you. So it pretty much depended upon what experience you had and how much time off work you wanted to take.

1 week for me. Used Circuit Based Training @ Mallory Park

Mon & Tue, on the track making a shed load of mistakes in a safe environment
Tue & Wed, on the roads (CBT here)
Thurs, more roads
Fri, MOD1, MOD2

I'd been riding dirt bike & driving cages for years so this suited me.

Also I walked off the MOD2 onto sensible 'big' bike and into an advanced training course

DAS takes about 15 minutes for mod 1 and 45 for mod 2, plus documentation shuffling.

Perhaps we're talking about different things.

Friday was an assessment

sat and sunday was training

Monday was test

had already done theory before I started to get it out the way

no hazard perception crap or mods then though

roughly 3 and a half days total - spread over a month as I couldn't take a week off in one hit.

Day one - CBT
Day two / three - training on a 125
Day 4 - training on a 500
Day 5 - finesse on a 500 in the morning, test in the afternoon

I did 18 hours training not including a cbt as I had one and 4 years of 125ing under my belt, that also doesn't include the time for mod1, mod 2 and theory test

I had my license on the morning of day 3

2 days training, then mod 1 & 2 straight after each other.

3 weeks point to point. As mentioned above, it's not always possible to do everything in days due to work. I had about 10hrs of lessons in total. The hardest part of the whole thing for me was the theory test (namely hazard perception), because having driven for 17 years, that part of the theory test is utter utter dogs**te and not remotely comparable to real world experience. It's a money making swizz

Took me 4 days, although I'd already done my CBT a couple of months before that.

I didn't want to book the whole DAS course in case biking wasn't for me, so I took my CBT as a standalone thing first.

If I'd done the CBT+DAS consecutively like most people did at the school I trained at, it would've taken 5 days

5 days for me but spread that over exactly 1 month due to waiting times for a test.

For Mod 1 I did one day training on a 600, plus a bit of a warm up the next morning followed by the test.

About 3 weeks later I did the same for Mod 2


So including the CBT, probably about 4 days all told. But spread out because I couldn't afford to pay for it all in one go.


But as 'borg said ... the actual time taken for DAS tests is about an hour in total.

All first time passes CBT / Mod 1 / Mod 2) but with work I struggled to take time off to complete different bits.

Made it harder overall though, because I wasn't riding between the tests it took a while to get back to the level I was at each time...

Remember though, you'll have learnt bugger all by the time you pass. It's road time after that that builds your riding skill. You actually have to do very little to pass in the grand scheme of things

Few months for me.

1 lesson a week starting in November and a few weeks off in Dec/Jan due to Christmas and I think snow for one of them. Passed in April.

3 days here, although I had been riding my H100a for a year before that so already had the CBT and theory stuff done.

1 day riding to mod 1 (with mod 2 commentary/training included) then Mod 1

1 day riding to mod 2 and doing mod 2

4 days, 3 days training then mod 1 & 2 on the final day. Initially I wasnt too happy about this because if I fucked up mod 1 Id lost the mod 2 test fees, and no refund on instructor/bike hire time either... I guess its more incentive not to fail mod 1 then!

Worked out fine in the end though. Though technically "to having licence in your hand" took like another 2-3 weeks after passing the test if thats what you wanted to know as well

The number of days training doesn't mean all that much as the number of hours you actually get to spend riding the bike during a day will vary quite a lot between different training schools.
