Thoughts on derbi terra 125. Any good?

Just found a derbi terra and fell in love with the look of it seen as though my dream bike is a bmw r1200gs.
Just wanting to know the thoughts on the bike and whether its known to be a "Good" bike.

They sold about 280 in the UK, so the chances of you finding an owner are slim, and of getting representative answers slimmer still.

Same answer as your last question about the XR125L and Eliminator. If you like it, and can afford it, and it's in good condition then go ahead and buy it. WeMoto has basic consumables, so unless the forks or shock or engine are knackered, there's no particular reason not to.

Are you going to post a new thread asking the same question every time you see another 125 on Gumtree?

It's a decent looking 125 with a Derbi own designed 15bhp engine, also shared with The Aprilia RS4 as well. What's not to like? It like the Varadero is a bit heavy for getting the most acceleration possible from a 15bhp bike, but it looks big and rugged and being a European bike with European parts, my mind says it must be better specced and built than a Chinq bike generally.

The Kawasaki eliminator will suck as it's a crappy 10bhp engine in a heavy cruiser frame. I try to be open to all kinds of interesting 125's, but I'd rather have a cheapo scooter than the eliminator. Any bike with that name needs about 120bhp and a big fat grippy back tyre to carry it off in my opinion.

The Eliminator is actually relatively light for a cruiser (even a 125 cruiser), but I don't wan't to enrage OP by posting in "his" thread, so you ain't see me, right?

When I was knocking about on my Varadero, a lad in the area had a 2012 Terra, I think? It would make sense because I remember wondering how a yoof the same age as me could afford brand new 125 monies, I was young and innocent, I didn't know about rich parents and things. Another chap had a duke 125 as well. I remember thinking how much cooler their bikes looked than mine. I did notice that there was nothing in it performance wise between the three of us, being 17, we'd all race each other off the lights and they'd have the initial jump then mine would rev to 7-8K and catch them up again, never found out what top speed difference was like.

Anyway, point of that is go for it, I like 'em but have no evidence to support that view point.

I had a 2009 model for a couple of years and it was a fantastic bike.

It's right at the top of the legal power limit and it's big enough to not look like a Dinky toy under a proper height person like me (6'4").

I only had one breakdown, when I had arcing across a broken plug cap in the rain - couple of quid to replace, so I can't comment on dealer support or repairs.

Brilliant bike though. No rust at all. No costs aside fuel, tax and insurance. Good looks and enough grunt to top 70 with ease and head on towards 80 (indicated). Very smooth and vibration-free. My wife had a Cross-City at the same time and, while it was more economical and looked good, the vibrations through the pegs made my feet hurt.

The Terra has a far superior engine and is much better put together.

I couldn't recommend one enough.

Bloke at work had one for a while, he seemed to like it very much. The rust was getting to it after a winter, and the exhaust end can looked like it was getting ready to fall off at the weld but it got him to work every day and crashed quite well on the ice, too. He eventually crashed it very well and got himself a Cross-City, a fabulous looking bike but the build quality seemed worse. The Terra can't have been too bad though, if he went straight back to Derbi.

As I understand it the digital clock breaks and working replacements are scarce, but that's the only real weak point to them as far as I know.

Someone at work had one. He was a big guy, kept snapping belts on his scooter before getting it I don't believe he had any issues with the bike and seemed to like it.

Little bro had a 12 plate adventure style one. Great riding position handled well with the wide bars. With 15bhp it would do 70mph and cruise all day at 65mph. Only thing that corroded was the exhaust a little but you could repaint it easily. Good little bike overall. He sold his for £1500 with 5k on the clock.
