DVLA have never given a damn about the signatures on the V5C. I've scrawled any old squiggle on there in the past.
Change of keeper can (finally!) be done online, so even the pretence has been dropped. No need for you to sign anything, and it doesn't really matter whether you or the current keeper does the change. He's responsible for doing it.
VED needs to be bought before it can be used or kept on the road. You can do that online. It used to be necessary to insure first, but that's now chased up separately.
What you will need is the 12 digit number from the V5C/2 'new keeper slip'. You don't strictly need the piece of paper, but I'd rather have it than not. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
