Just don't do this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih9J1XfmTSg
Not ridden any properly sporty bikes (don't like the riding position either) but personally 110 bhp isn't any scarier than less powerful bikes (50-80 bhp for example). They all have enough power and weight to make sure things end badly if you f**k up.
Oh a guy at worked went from a Vespa to a ZX6R and survived |

No bike bites you for miss-reading a traffic situation. As I said if you get in over your head then they'll bite. |

From the small amount of research I've done i seem to be looking at around £500-£700 for the insurance. As expected for the first year I guess...
The sv650 seems ok, although it's not the prettiest |

Went from an NSR125 to a ZX6R J2 after passing my test at 17.
It was brilliant fun so on that basis I whole heartedly recommend it. To this day, I still regret selling it.
Pros: 100bhp+ at your disposal.
Cons: People telling you that you're going to die on it. |

You'll be fine just don't go full Rossi style straight off the bat. Get a good feel for the bike and it's behaviour first and progressively get faster and buy some crash bungs, you'll most likely drop it if it's your first bike.
Also, a bit unrelated to the original topic, but why are you looking for bikes at a dealers? Much better deals to be had in private sales |

Emphasised.
On a test ride of a CBR600F I found that it started to get fun as I was running out of road and bottle. Perfectly pleasant when ridden slowly, lovely smooth engine, but I had to kick down and down and down to find the go in it and then keep throttling until it screamed. Do that and wow, fun, but here comes the roundabout and the congestion and dammit, I don't live in a bike advert.
It was such a relief to get back on the Nazi Tractor. A much more comfortable position, more usable roll on torque, just all round nicer to ride when you're not determined to be a rapscallion.
Sports bike sales have been falling year on year, and bikes with less-power-more-torques engines, more upright positions and straightish bars are ever more popular. I think there's a reason for that. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I'm initially looking at dealers as they are easy to go into and have a look around, sit on a few of the bikes so I can get the general feel of my seating position.
Excuse my lack of knowledge but what is the green wire on the bike from the picture I uploaded? I'm sure it's something simple... |
