Fuck you Honda you fucking fucks - And fuck my breakdown too

Pretty damn fuming at the moment.

Apparently Honda decided to fit a mystery headlight size to my VFR, I've now tried a general headlight pack, and two different individual packs of headlights but nothing is the correct size. They're basically an H7, the connector fits an H7. But the spring retaining clip isn't tight with a standard H7 bulb. Google doesn't help, H7 apparently. Nope!

Long story short I'm headlightless despite having one known working bulb of the correct type and a bag full of useless fucking spares. Tried the fuses to no avail. And it's dark, and pissing it down. Fuck this shit.

I'll just call my breakdown recovery then. Can I find the correct number on their website? Like fuck.

Conveniently the sales team pick up immediately and are able to give me the correct number for recovery - less conveniently there is no offer to transfer me - "Do you have a pen and paper?" - Good thing I'm not at the side of the road then!

Shame the recovery number isn't so efficient to answer! 10 minutes of "You are number 1 in the queue" and I'm just about ready to boil. Predictably the sales team is super speedy to answer the line second time around too - nice to see they've got their priorities in order! I'm guessing a conveyed my level of pissed off just right, this time they managed to find the call transfer number.

So I'm settled in for a long wait, luckily I'm in a warm office with a full vending machine around the corner. It's the little things in life

I suppose there should be some point to my rant, so if you could kindly point me in the direction of the correct headlamp size I'd appreciate it greatly!

Oh and before anybody suggests it, yes I'm doing the clip correctly, a side by side comparison shows the lamp is definitely bulkier than a standard H7 lamp.

Should have specified, it's a V-tec, post 2001 IIRC.

Not an import that I know of, fairly certain it was registered from new in the UK.

Osram say H4, how many pins do the connectors have?

2001 is H4. Twin filament, 3 pins, 60/55w
2002 on is H7. Single filament, 2 pins. 55w

My old HR-V used to have these things, sort of like a white plastic bakelite affair that went between loom and light and without it ... the light would flap about like a sausage in an alley.

Bulb is an 34901-MC7-602 which looks for all the world like an H7

bulb should push into no.5 in the pic on post above. will be black and looks as though it is part of bulb. pull old bulb out of black part and push new bulb into the black part.

That's the solution, I had no idea it was a separate part!

Let's see if I can get a pair of them in before the breakdown guy arrives!

Do you have main beam / flash of main beam? Sidelight? Or just no lights whatsoever?

I think i'd be running contact cleaner / dielectric grease through the switch on the bars. I had mine to bits on this bike over the summer and cleaned all the contacts up.

i presume you've checked the relays are clicking?

I've got no idea what was up fuse/power wise, I'm off work tomorrow anyway, I'll have a good look then. They should definitely come on with a single bulb and everything was identical to how it is now. Filament is intact on the other one too so no obvious reason for it not to light up.

VFR is a pig to fit HIDs to btw, I had to manufacture my own spacer to make them fit.

When i fitted them to the HR-V ... i just used made spacers out of PTFE. Wasn't a bad job to do IIRC.

Check the earth connections. Mate had issues with his VFR due to earth block being furry and green, apparently some goldwing models are known for crappy earth connector blocks too.

VFR definitely uses H7 - I've replaced mine in the past after they blew due to various other electrical problems, and of course it needs to plug into the shim - but I believe the OEM bulb is more vibration resistant.

One saving grace with the VFR is that you need to blow all four bulbs before you don't have any lights any more, since the high bulbs are swappable with the low bulbs. There are two rear bulbs too.

I've replaced more bulbs on the VFR than any other bike I've owned.

VFRs tend to blow bulbs regularly if your reg/rec is 'iffy'.

Sos motorcycle recovery.

I hasten to add that every other experience with them has been pretty top notch, but I think more of their custom is through the usual big breakdown providers rather than direct to them, they've obviously not got the direct breakdown cover bit quite nailed yet!

It's the first time I've had to call them since I've been directly covered by them, my previous experiences have been through Adrian Flux's Breakdown cover.

Mine has only done 21k miles and i'm the 2nd owner. Other than rewiring the dash to sort out some wire track issues, it all looks nice and tidy and original.

I've had the fairings off about 15 times sorting out alignment of stuff and tidying up loose wires but nothing has actually broken on it and it always starts first time.

The only thing i bothered to change was the exhaust for a Staintune and the only thing that has broken is my neighbours ears
