Any HGV drivers here?

Going for my Cat C next month / LGV and C+E shortly after.

Just curious how many bikers drive a truck.

Mainly going for it because I see my licence as a scoreboard and like getting more entitlements to it. Mr. Green

The only entitlements I will never get is PCV as the idea of driving a load of OAPs to Benidorm or doing the local chav run to the dull office would be the worst job ever.

It was my dads bread and butter and as a kid I used to love it.

If it was more reasonable to obtain I would consider, but why jump through several hoops and pay a lot of money to be working 60 hours a week for £9 an hour if your lucky - if you can find work other than agency

I've just started jumping through all the hoops to get my class 1. Will be driving recovery trucks though. Always wanted to do it, and can't wait.

Artic drivers at work,with their overtime and night out allowance (2 or 3 nights a week),are earning about £45k before tax.

No weekend work either.

One showed me his P60 last year.

Did 3 years driving a double decker in central London, both on crew buses with a conductor and one man operated buses.
Met all sorts of scum and villainy, and that was just the passengers. If you give a crap about the state of the country the
job will do your head in, particularly where I drove buses, Oxford Street, Waterloo, Victoria and the like.

Never ever again will I haul ungrateful bstards around for a crust, fuck that! Lorries are better! At least you can
chuck a few fucks into someone who cuts you up from a truck, some old biddy already on the bus will fucking
report you if you do that in a bus. In a truck you can often take a different route if traffics bad, with a bus
it's the same stretch of road over and over. Back in the day you could legally smoke while driving a truck, never
in a bus. In a truck you can have the radio on, and chat hands free with whoever you fancy while you drive
if you want. Most company vehicles have hands free nowadays. Buses don't. Back when I did it my basic was £225
a week, that was probably about 20 years ago now. The rota becomes your life on the buses, not a job for a young
man, I was 21 when I started and having to work weekends and evenings was well shit when all my mates
were out on the lash, and the uniform was itchy and looked shit.

Aye there is but its just finding it.

Personally I'm done with warehouse work. Plan to do a bit of trunking for a year and then maybe give university a try or maybe a job fishing/oil up in Scotland. Long as I don't end up a desk jockey with a receding hair line and a god complex I think I will be happy.

Double decker artic work with brand new trailers and R450 streamlines 40 hour weeks. No overtime, no weekends. Multi drops.

Our drivers are on £32k a year and I think that's good!

Most weeks they do over their hours, averaging 55 hours is not unusual. I'd rather take a slight cut and work 8 hours a day like myself and earn overtime if I want it.

I think the golden age of road haulage is well gone, still a few blokes earning a nice sum with their own rig, or owning 3 or 4 subcontracting.

I know a few foreign drivers and a lot of them are great. imo there is only a minority that are bad which we all obviously focus on.

I agree, there are a few select few who are half decent (not that hard though really is it?)

We had a few in once to cover a few holidays over summer and my god, if they wasn't scuffing up the motors they were getting lost, I'm talking ending up in Islington instead of Harrow?!

I think a lot of them drag it out for the hourly pay, they even turn up to work in their foreign registered mercs and bmws, just here for the money.

It's catch 22 - No real young drivers are coming through, not enough anyway, I deal with around 25-30 drivers a day and they are all 45+. The elbonians fill a massive gap in the industry, and if that gap was allowed to grow we would be in big trouble. Road haulage keeps the country going.

I use to do fridge work and a bit of container work worse things are traffic and gob shite fork lift driver's. Moneys ok and if you like being by yourself then it would suit.
