Still at the planning stages but I like to know what I'm going to be doing before purchase so I can do all my 'mods' straight away.
Firstly I'll need L plates.
Some people display them on their tyre flap, is that ok, legal?
E.g. https://ssli.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/z/De4AAOSwu-BWP2QS/$_86.JPG
Want to get this windshield
https://www.bs-motoparts.com/en/Default.aspx?TY=2&ST=1&IT=4139¤cy=GBP&utm_source=Google-Produktsuche-GB&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google-Produktsuche-GB&gclid=CJDIt9i8x8oCFWnlwgod6zkLlw
Some chrome paint the make things a bit more shiny? Would that be heat resistant?
Also in my cars I always have a white/bluish headlights, would like something similar for the YBR because the yellow looks bad. But I don't want to spend a lot because the motorcycle is just a bit of fun really, nothing serious.
Also can anyone recommend some basic mods which are cheap and easy to install (or get installed)? No performance mods.
And all my friends and colleagues are telling me not to get a bike because they think its dangerous. Surely thats with the driver (rider?), I've been driving for a few years with a powerful car, and hoping to get my racing licenses which shows I am a competitive driver at good speeds. ____________________ V6 |

Must be "displayed on the vehicle in such manner as to be clearly visible to other persons using the road from within a reasonable distance from the front and from the back of the vehicle".
Plenty of people take the piss with L plates, particularly on the front, and will tell you that Dibble doesn't care. I'll tell you that the first thing that happened when I got tugged as a Learner was that Cunstable McRant went to the front of the bike to look for the plate.
Why give them any excuse? You can get plates that clamp on to the fork leg, or you can slap them on the screen.
Works well, I had a similar Puig on my 125 and have never looked back apart from lifesavers.

Er, it's a bulb. White or yellow are allowed for any vehicle. I actually like yellowish for a dipped beam, as it's unusual and in my head might make people pause to actually consider it. Plenty of folk now drive or ride with pisstake bluish bulbs though, and you're unlikely to get more than a rectification notice for it.
Front facing auxiliary lights can be any colour except red.

Rubber fork gaiters. The chrome on YBR fork legs isn't great.

But they wouldn't blink an eye if you were to go pony trekking? Ignore, prove them wrong by just doing it.

Eh. The main risk is other traffic, not speed. I ride a biggish bright yellow bike wearing dayglo and reflective strips, with a while helmet, a bright headlight and auxiliary led strips and spots, and still get pulled out on. It's rarely a drama if you expect it though.
There are things that you can do to mitigate it, for example, the SMIDSY weave:

Wow good info there.
Getting pulled out on does worry me which is why I'm starting with a basic bike.
I was planing on wearing this flashing red or white led things that runners wear whilst riding?
In London there are so many careless drivers. Me personally I find bicycles are harder to see generally, and I have accidentally caused them a few concerns (but haven't ran any cyclists over yet).
However motorcycles, from my driver's perspective, catch more attention, they are louder, take up much space on the road and I think they sit in the middle, rather than cyclists who seem to change their positioning every second. ____________________ V6 |

He didn't say what I think he did, did he?
Or have we finally found a cager who notices bikes
Pardon the sarcasm, but you really do have to assume they're out to kill you, you could wear a flashing giant dildo on your head for all the attention it'd get from other drivers. Staying alive safe is totally down to defensive riding not what you wear. ____________________ They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa, hey-hey,

That's where my front L plate is - I don't have a screen, so not sure where else I would put it?
That link to the windshield doesn't seem to want to work for me ____________________ -- Avatar by DestinyBlue: https://destinyblue.deviantart.com/ -- |

Sorry to go in dry, but...
| REKX wrote: | Getting pulled out on does worry me which is why I'm starting with a basic bike. |
About as unsafe as you can get. Small, minimal frontal area, single headlight. It's barely more visible than a pushbike. Perhaps even less so, because we're not supposed to use flashing lights.
Bigger bikes are more visible, have better brakes, tyres and suspension and are generally safer - and easier to ride.
| REKX wrote: | I was planing on wearing this flashing red or white led things that runners wear whilst riding? |
Probably fine as long as they're on you and not the bike. However, there's some danger that you'll be perceived as a bicycle, therefore slow and more easily messed with.
| REKX wrote: | I think they sit in the middle, rather than cyclists who seem to change their positioning every second. |
Changing position makes you more visible. An unvarying head on approach to a vehicle at a junction is as bad as you can get.
I don't mean to put you off. You'll probably be fine. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

decent tyres - i used metzeler on mine which were fine.
i put a couple of LED lights in the 'air intakes' either side of the tank/forks to be more visible. One of them packed up after a year. i disconnected the other one - no idea if it made a difference.

How much will it cost to get my full license?
It took me 3 months age of 17 to pass my driving test, I hope that gives an idea of my ability to understand and take in information.
So an accurate price of lessons, test etc? ____________________ V6 |

Not really.
Smart people can still struggle to ride a bike, there's a lot going on, using both hands and feet at the same time (perhaps exaggerated) while also concentrating on what other cars are doing, is that fella going to try to overtake, will he pull out....
There's a lot going on and the time it takes can be very personal.
Have you got your CBT yet?
When you have that, you can book in and go for the MOD1 and 2 sans lessons and instructor and have a blast at the tests. MOD1 is what, £16 ish? Cheaper to have a few goes than pay for a day's training with an instructor.
Also try not to be too cocksure. Just because you've done trackdays in a car and thinking about getting the racing licence will not mean you know how to ride a bike fast. Come at the whole process humble. Be willing to listen to the instructor. It is a totally different ball game to just belting into a car seat and off you go. ____________________ I'm Sam; Northern, Ginger, Lover

This is true,
Recently done my cbt, Didn't go on the road first day as I was not very good, I totally agreed that best decision for me was to practice control in a car park and go back for another days training,
Done it now, but still feel I need to take take time to practice on my own,
By the way I drive a car probably a 1000 Miles a week and have done for ages, more some times being a service engineer,
It is good fun though, Also been told that two days for cbt may soon become the standard ____________________ Cbt Done, Currently wobbling around on a Cbf125 and love it

DVSA are strongly implying that they reckon the CBT should be multiple days for first-timers. But they're not planning to (and have no powers to) set new minimum time limits for any component. You'll still be able to rock up and hear "Wear a helmet, red means stop, there's the starter button, ride to the gate, now let's do your '2 hour' road ride." ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Might just be where I went,
Sutton motorcycles, they are introducing a paperwork side, it's not in yet, but they were trialing it,
Basically a load of tick boxes and so on, looked quite alot of paperwork and the instructors thought it will take them two days to go through it all,
They basically teach you abit, they sign for it and then you sign for it to say you received that part of the training,
They also told me that come around August time if you finish cbt on an auto you can only ride an auto,
If all this is true I have no idea ____________________ Cbt Done, Currently wobbling around on a Cbf125 and love it
