The warning of Mobile Speed Cameras - Offence?

Hi all,

A friend of mine recently posted on the local area's social media page the whereabouts of a mobile speed camera.

Pretty sure this isn't an offence to do so..?

I've only heard of people getting 'done' by flashing people to warn of others, and even then; let's face it with a bit of common sense it's not difficult to not get caught.

Due to many many comments of 'Don't speed then' and 'I never speed.. leave earlier' and 'Speeding kills' 'Why is it an issue, they are only trying to make the roads safer' 'Good lets hope it catches everyone speeding, speeding kills' (you know the type)

Basically the same thing happens over and over again: some are appreciative and some jump up on their high horse and accuse us, the kitten slaying monsters that we are, for simply making others aware. Especially when they hide around corners 300ft away from NSL signs, that doesn't sit well with me.

For this reason I was thinking about starting my own private group for the local area. Speed camera awareness or some shit.

That way all these cocks that complain and mong all day long on social media won't even get to see the warnings that people post, it will only go out to people that want to know.

What I just want to be sure of is that I wouldn't be in any way breaking the law or make the Police want to interview me, when I haven't even applied for a job there..

Don't police or scameras post where they arer operating in local papers?

If they do that I can't see how 'repeating' the information can be a crime.

Thing is, who checks online or the papers every time they go out to check if there is a speed camera setup on their route?

I've always been tempted to make a cheap sign that can sit on the pavement with a picture of a speed camera to warn drivers, so whenever I pass a camera I'd go back out of sight round a corner or something, and quickly place the sign down to warn drivers.
And because it's cheap I wouldn't bother going back for it in case the rozzers are round the corner waiting to pounce!

If enough people caught on with it, every time a camera was setup 2 mins later a sign would be put out round the corner warning drivers!

The phone app 'Waze' (owned by google now) allows users to upload sightings of police for others to see and confirm/cancel*.

* Presumably to warn you of the erratic driving you may see in other less conscientious road users when they become aware of the police.

Clever cars with cameras that (semi-)automate stuff could also recognise police cars, your phone connects with your clever car, you phone connects with Waze, everyone else can see locations of actual police cars?

For what'd likely end in a pantopian nightmare ... why not just have your phone camera (often Pretty good) work as a dash cam and look for recognised shapes? It could then use pattern recognition to have a guess at what was going on and take a picture to show to others. Could also 'track' moving vehicles too, using ocr. All great until 'the man' uses the data for his own purposes!

Spotted a sneaky police bike setting up a tripod yesterday, near a junction for Cheddar, on the A37. Usually they are hiding in their conspicuous vans.
