Had a quick look on Youtube - holy hell!
It's beautiful, affordable, decent size and seems to sound amazing if fitted with a Leovince... first reply and may be on to a winner
Thanks for the suggestion! |

Which MT-03, you have to be more specific now (I know you mean the 660).
I feel like everyone likes these and I come along like Eeyore to pi$$ in everyone's cornflakes.
IMO it's a right moment bike, as in at the right moment it's a lot of fun. The rest of the time the heavy clutch, not so great fueling, and crap tank range make it a difficult bike to live with. It's also quite heavy for a big single, although it's beautifully balanced and you can almost control the thing using telepathy.
I like mine, but I wouldn't have another, and come April when the insurance's due I'm probably going to sell it. It's a well built but flawed machine, with iffy electrics.

Read: https://www.dft.gov.uk/motorcycle-test-vehicle-list/ there are more motorcycles than that, of course. Nearly every motorcycle that's 70kW and less could be made A2 friendly.
Also, if commuting is what you are going to do often, I wouldn't really go for a too loud exhaust system. Excessive noise gets tiring pretty soon. Plus, all the neighbors are gonna start to like you even more. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

https://a2bikes.co.uk/bike/yamaha-fzr600 says yes. But doesn't specify years, or cite any sources, and uses a different power number than Yamaha provides.
It's a spergsite with no way of correcting obvious idiocy like the Gixxer 600 being a "yes" based on the RWHP that another sperg absolutely insists on restoring on Wikipedia despite several attempts to clarify it. I'm out.

Nope. DVSA's list of test bikes is as close as you'll get, as incomplete and occasionally inaccurate as it is. There's no "definitive" list of bike power to use for drawing one up as it didn't used to be necessary to disclose it. Harley still don't, for that matter. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Sorry I was talking about the 98 onwards 750F. Friend had one on his A2 (until a lady wrote it off with her Fiesta) & he never had an issue. Would be worth asking Suzuki though as you said, to be certain as it's very close to the limit according to online sites. |

My personal opinion is that the FZS600 or Duke 690 (dependent on budget) is the best A2 bike on paper. In my experience, the GSX750F (albeit unrestricted) was a cracking bike to ride, it's just a shame about the looks, but they are A2 compatable. I've ridden the MT-03 on my lessons and tests for my A2 and I think it'd come boring very quickly. |
Boring would probably be the last word I'd use to describe an '03. IMO the only point in getting something like a Fazer would be with an eye on doing your A tests, otherwise you're just getting a big heavy bike for no reason (as it'll be restricted).
Duke 690's seem to be holding their value (really well), OP hasn't stated a budget but they might be a good shout. However I'd be having a serious look at smaller bikes (300cc etc.) as they look a lot more fun than a restricted barge. |
But now ask yourself the question, how many people really keep there bikes restricted. Out of the fair few A2 license holders I know, not one has their bike restricted.
Also I'd imagine anyone doing there A2 will most likely be moving up to their A. So if they do keep it restricted, it saves them the effort of having to find a new bike after upgrading license.
As for my opinion on the MT, it's just my opinion. I found it fairly gutless and jerky. When you compare it to other big singles out there, it is a very boring bike, the duke 690 being a prime example. |

OP sounds like they want to be 'legit'.

Pretty sure I said the same thing Getting a bike you can de-restrict in the test centre car park, and do your A tests is a good idea. However getting (for example) a Bandit, restricting it, with no intention of keeping it is a waste of time and unnecessary IMO.

Do you have any other examples? The 690 has it beat, but I can't think of another. The jerkiness is almost completely sorted with a £10 o2 sensor eliminator, almost as only at high revs when you chop at the throttle can it still be jerky.
Anyway, didn't you used to have a Bandit? I think it was you who got offended when I called it a Blandit |
