Why not put off road tyres on a sporty bike?

I have a yamaha ybr 125g, it's like the dual sport version of the ybr 125. It's got other off road styling though and I wondered, why don't people stick off road tyres on Cbr or yzf bikes? I'm talking about 125cc bikes mainly, so it's not like there is any crazy high speed cornering! I personally think off road tyres would look pretty cool on a sporty bike! Especially on our crazy UK or sludgy Yorkshire roads!

What are your thoughts?

Because they would look ridiculous and would have a negative effect on handling, regardless of the power of the engine.

Off road tyres are shit on road. Even dirty muddy ones. That's why they are 'off road' tyres.

Dual sport tyres *might* be OK, but it depends on the tyre. You're better off with decent sticky road tyres.

If you're going to be riding off-road; makes perfect sense.

If you're going to be riding on-road; that'd be silly. You're compromising handling and safety for style. It's going to be even worse in the drizzly Yorkshire.

Certain, specific "offroad" tyres are designed to grip well on the road. None I'm aware of that would fit a 125 and they tend not to last very long on a proper sportsbike which shred lumps off them.

Pirelli MT60RS being a case in point. Avon distanzias weren't bad too.
