Anyone know what a 105dB noise limit is like in practical terms, ie will most race cans be ok? Presumably 105dB isn't a 5000rpm test done in the paddock like at oulton, but a full on drive by one? And if so, anyone know where they test at donington?

I imagine for their use, they'll do a test at a particular rpm with a sensor at particular distance from the exhaust. It doesn't take very long to do and is pretty simple.

105dB at 7m away for a drive by test is really quite loud, and I wouldn't really expect them to do one, as the area you need to ensure that the test is accurate is quite specific (and large) and the test takes quite a while.

It was cos it was so loud that made me wonder - when i've been tested before it's been a fairly low rpm with the bike at a standstill type affair.
If they do it trackside when i'm at 14k though, i might be in trouble, and i'd need to know where to roll off.

Donington have noise monitors dotted around the circuit (allegedly) so they don't get you in individually to test. If you've ever been to Castle Combe you'll know what stringent is - they measure the noise on each bike from half a metre. My ZX6R with a standard exhaust measured about 103db - some ZX9Rs and R1s with standard cans failed! Shocked
