Jacket and Bottoms 2 Piece

Ive recently got myself a textile jacket and some bottoms that connect via a zip. When done up it feels tight and like its pulling, the attachment on the jacket is stretchy mind.

My question is, is this normal? Should it be a stretch fit or will it wear in over time?

Also, do you guys prefer to ride with a connection zip or without?

Mine zip together. When I first got them, I'd zip them up all the time. Now, I can't be bothered. It's just another thing to do in the morning.

I crashed in them, unzipped, and it was fine - but I would imagine it's slightly safer to have them zipped together and avoid the jacket riding up/trousers riding down.

People say that it stops a draught getting in, but I can't say I notice the difference.

Re the "pulling" - it's certainly less comfortable for me to zip them both up. I wouldn't go so far as to call it "restrictive", but I definitely feel like I have a better range of motion when they're not zipped together.

I zipped mine together once, can't say that it was a life changing experience. +1 on it just being more avoidable fuss for daily use.

Zipping together would stop the two halves from being pulled apart by friction in an accident.

In reality, however, having binned in the fast lane of the motorway, you'll go through textiles so quickly it's unbelievable. The only thing that keeps you from serious road rash is the pads on the knees, elbows etc.

I've never zipped mines together. Way to much of a PITA. If I was bothered about them separating in a crash, I'd buy a one piece leather.

I had my jacket ride up in a crash, the road hurts. The skin damage was still minimal (from 40mph), the broken arm was far worse than the road rash - and all the zips in the world won't save a snappy bone!

I zip up now, but I zip for warmth rather than safety. My Leathers also zip together and do feel tight when standing, but they're supposed to be comfortable on the bike rather than walking around.

I zip mine together because it keeps the drafts from coming up the back of the jacket. Mine has stretchy material between the two pieces and it hasn't ripped in three years and counting.

I zip mine together because it stops draft and rain/spray getting up my back.

Marginally awkward zipping them together when stood up, like wearing a one piece, but on the bike its no problem.

It should be a bit stretchy so that it keeps the parts as close together as possible without being as restrictive as a solid connection. That's why the zip panel is stretchy! If it wasn't supposed to pull a little bit, they'd just have put an extra long bit of non-stretchy material in there.

I zip up (unless wearing jeans) - one of those things that only takes a couple of seconds and causes no issues so not worth thinking if it is really worth it or not (although it did cost me some time in making up an adaptor zip so that I can use leather or textile jacket with leather or textile trousers - zip standardisation like on walking jackets/fleeces would be really nice!). Wouldn't worry me unduly being unzipped if it was uncomfortable to zip up.

Zip up my leathers as it keeps the trousers up in the absence of braces/belt. Don't bother with textiles as jacket is quite long

Was just curious about it all really as my bottoms fit nice and the jacket is also snug, it's also relatively short. They zip together... Easier with the jacket off I've found.

Just feels like it's pulling a bit too much like I have to pull the bottoms up high and the jacket feels like it's pulling down at the back slightly...

I've got a long back for my height, so getting a 2-piece to zip together comfortably is difficult. You can get zip-in extensions made. I have had some made. Company that made them has dissapeared though. Asking nicely anywhere that alters leathers should get you somewhere.

I much prefer to ride zipped up, stops cold draughts up my back and keeps my kit in place. If it doesn't zip together then its out with the unsightly braces or the textiles work their way down.

I've had trouble with zipping jackets and trousers together and feeling comfortable before as well.

I reckon quality of gear counts a lot - I recently ponied up and caved in to buying a Rukka jacket and trousers. Whilst I was in the shop I decided to bugger it and got the Rukka armoured waistcoat/bodyshell type thing.

The waistcoat and trousers zip together and there's straps to adjust length. Few minutes of fiddling with the velcro and it was sorted. Jacket goes over the top and you get the snug zipped in feeling without the restriction or tightness.

All the hype about Rukka is true - it's the most comfy stuff I've ever worn on the bike. Even zipped up with chest/back armour.

Yeah I tried on a few! The jacket fits nicely. Quite snug in fact but I can still wear a jumper under it. It is short, just on a par with the waist. Bottoms fit perfectly with minimal adjustment from the velcro strapping on the side.

It all fits ok, its just when they are zipped up they feel tight. Perhaps this is because they are new?!

Plus couldn't turn down the price! Ha!

My HG jacket zips to my RST troosers, both textile. I like to zip up because it stops my arse hanging out.
My FT leathers zip together, again to stop my arse hanging out.
My FT work jacket is long enough to cover my arse.
