Having an issue with my clutch. It doesn't seem to be clutch basket related but the other side. The lever side. Can't get any tension on the clutch cable, it almost as if the clutch cable is too long. I have ordered a new spring for the lever near the engine as it doesn't seem taught enough. I have tried extra winding it but it just slips. Everything else appears ok.
Is there any thing else I need to look at?

The handle bar is at max adjustment too.

Cable was an after market part, but so was the last one, reason I have had to change cables is that it appeared to have stretched, or wouldn't dis-engage the clutch when hot.

Are you the Varadero owner? If so I know exactly what it is. The two tiny bearings that the clutch lever sits in on the front sprocket cover seize up.

Temp fix is to pop the sprocket cover off, pull out the lever shaft and chuck lots of grease in. The long term fix is to replace the arm (the flat end that pushed on the clutch pushrod wears) and the two small bearings as well.

Yes it is a vara, so I need to change parts 4,12,13,14 on the diagram?

Yes, those bits.

I got the bearings changed by a mechanic, the lower one looked a git to get out, especially as it had partially worn away. I got the arm a few weeks later which gave me back the adjustemnt I had been missing in my cables, just like yourself.

This was the arm, the yellow line is the bit that wears https://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b165/yen_powell/varadero%20tech/P1130913.jpg

As I said, it only takes a few minutes to remove the arm to grease it up. This lets the spring make the lever return more easily as a stop gap measure. Just undo the sprocket cover bolts, unhook the cable at that end. Pull the sprocket cover off, make a careful note of how the spring fits then just tug the clutch arm out.
