Yamaha FZR1000 genisis

Seen a Yamaha FZR1000 genisis on autaotrader.

its a 1988 so knocking on abit but looks fairly tidyish on the pics . Ive not had a bike for nearly 2 years now and at 97 quid to insure im tempted to go get.

Anything i should look out for in specific.

FZR 1000 streetfighter ,Triumph backend ducati 916 seat, full stain less micron system runs smooth and starts on the button no smoke and rides great comes with over 11 months mot ,could do with a few jobs brakes are binding a bit needs a new ignition switch, headlamp isn't the best and previous owner said it cut out in the wet generally needs going over but its a ride able project that will make a one off great bike

Really depends on price,and what you reckon it will cost to sort it.

Love the old Genesis myself,shame its been fucked with.

It's only 600 and brakes and ignition isn't a problem I just don't want it to blow up first time I take it out

Is that swing arm conversion a known thing?

If it's not, I would want to know what kind of bodgery could be lurking therein.

Other than that, I've seen a lot worse at three times the price and at least there's no shagged out plastics to deal with.

Probably not a bad punt at a pocket money price.

If you can do a full brake overhaul and dont mind having the wiring loom out on the kitchen table whilst you replace half of it looking for the mysterious cause of cutting out in the wet, then you might something that runs. If either of these jobs scare you then walk away. The streetfightering is very much a crashed it and didnt replace fairings job. Could be a money pit. Suspect current owner has not had much riding out of it and determined it to be a money pit. But is cheap and if you have time, workspace and skill then go for it, but only if you have those.

Well I'm guessing you have personal experience, but that wouldn't really put me off on its own.
The bike is only £600, nearly 30 years old and has a list of problems.
Its hardly a safe bet even if it happened to be the most reliable model of motorcycle ever made. The fact that some of them have dropped valves wouldn't really change the odds of it going catastrophically wrong in the near future as that's highly likely with any 600 quid project streetfighter.

it's more along the lines likelihood of a GPz900R eating its valves and seats. Or a VF750 eating its valvegear, or a 90's-mid 00's honda four setting its stator on fire, or an R6 eating second gear.

FZRs have a tendancy for the valves to recess into the seat, leaving an un-even seat that can result in the head of the valve shearing off

That's nice. I like it. There may even be jealousy if it runs as well as it looks. Engine loooks like a bandit 12, swingarm, tank and headlight different, is it what they call overseas an inazuma 750?
