Best Spray-On Bike Cleaner

OK, OK, I know you can use solvents and mineral spirits and lots of rags and brushes and so on but what's the best off-the-shelf spay-on bike cleaner.

My local shops sell Muc-Off, WD40 Motorbike Total Wash and Silkolene Wash-Off.

All about the same price, all 1litre with integral spray.

Any ideas as to which is best / worst?

I've tried a few. They're all rubbish.

You really can't beat a bucket of hot soapy water and a sponge. Wheel cleaner and brake cleaner to get rid of crud and grime on the wheels/metal surfaces.

That muc-off bike cleaner is a waste of time... I only use it after something stronger (or degreaser) to get rid of any residue... Useless at actually cleaning anything

Screwfix industrial degreaser in a B&Q plant spray bottle.

I've had Fenwicks FS1 for bicycle drive trains that I've used on the motorbike too. Undiluted for chain, sprockets etc but careful on paintwork, use it diluted (10 parts water to 1 fenwicks) and wash off with water fairly quickly or it can attack the shine a bit if left on.

During the winter I tend to use an Aldi 5L garden spray thingy with a dollop of SDoc100 and a couple of litres of warm water. Spray all over (and under), leave for 3 or 4 minutes and wash of with a hose. However, I still use a hand brush on the pipes/cans to fully remove the salt before rinsing.

For a general pre-wash soak I tend to use a Muc Off and WD40. Paraffin or Gunk for getting the bike to a reasonable standard after taking ownership of a new bike / spring cleaning.

Check out ebay. I got two gallon bottles of muc off for 20 squids. Muc off shifts most things, for what it doesn't shift there is gunk/jizer, brake cleaner,carb cleaner, chain spray or black powder solvent. Gunk/jizer shifts almost anything. I'm not sure if it is chain safe.

Buy some 1litre pressure sprayers for brake cleaner, muc off, gunk and wd40. Buy 5l/gallon bottles of the releveant cleaner. A 5 or 10 litre garden sprayer full of water handles the rise stage.

Less water and mess than a hosepipe. Less money on sprays than pre-charged aerosols.
