Probably going far too much against the grain here but all the Deadpool trailers I've seen didn't give me much interest.

Is he supposed to be a new kind of 'badass' superhero or something? Seemed very American and teenager-ish to me.

That's the story from the Wolverine movie, and maybe even the story from some comics, but I don't think that's the generally accepted story.

Basically he's a super soldier with accelerated healing, but he's also insane and talks to the fourth wall. He's quite a well loved character I think.
