Me and the folks are clearing out my grans house and came across a load of old records that my cousin left years ago, mainly iron maiden and acdc, wondering if its worth selling them or just skip them.
Also this, im guessing its just tat but you never know.

The pictured one is called Eddies Archives, completed listings on ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Eddie%27s%20archives&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

'Valued' by those who own them at £300, Seem to be reliably selling for £70 - £100.

You appear to be missing two CDs mind.

Always worth selling over skipping.

Lots of sites out there that will help value. I used to use Eil.com to check going rates

I've started collecting vinyl - mainly to replace those I have lost over the years. Certain records go for loads (original Led Zep, Ozzy era Black Sabbath etc) but most aren't worth more than a couple of quid if you can be bothered to advertise/package/post them.

If the AC/DC is Bon Scot era they may be worth £10 each if original pressings and decent nick. Otherwise your best bet is to stick them on't Bay as a job lot, buyer to collect.

If you can be bothered, pm me with what you have got and I'll give you an idea...

I'm a bit confused. Are we calling CDs vinyl now? I always thought vinyl referred to records...you know, black plastic discs with grooves on them that a needle sat in and added loads of crackly noise to your music? Are we already saying that CDs can have more than nominal value? Hey, I'm not totally a dinosaur, all my music is in MP3 format now.

I once had an original pressing of Led Zep's third album, red Atlantic label, with the Aleister Crowley inscription on the run-off...wonder what that would be worth to a collector now... Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin ?

I always use Discogs (https://www.discogs.com) for historical selling prices for vinyl.

The prices are pretty accurate and you can watch trends as well.

I'm a vinyl nerd.

I'll get me coat.

Value goes up when things get rare. People assume vinyl will be rare because it's 40 years old, but it was a very popular mass produced item in its day, doesn't degrade much, and has spent most of those 40 years on a shelf. This means they only get rare when people start breaking them.

Wait for the hipsters to have a 70s rock phase. They'll buy up all the old vinyl, play it on an original 70s portable record player in the park/starbucks through a set of wooden headphones, and destroy it by being cack handed or using a blunt (yet original/authentic/I was doing this before it was cool) stylus.

Then your records will be worth a bit more. Still not much, you'd be lucky to turn a stack of records into their value (by weight) in petrol.

Or just play them and enjoy them. 70s rock is more satisfying when played on vinyl through a set of proper speakers.

I bet I get just as much enjoyment out of listening to it on MP3 as you do on vinyl. Now, how are you gonna argue your way out of that one? Laughing

I wouldn't argue that you don't get just as much enjoyment.

For me, vinyl is a full sensory experience - touch, looks, smell, as well as the sound. I listen to a lot of music on MP3 and enjoy it muchly, but there's something different about the experience on vinyl (IMHO of course)

Depends what sort of condition they're in. The problem with a lot of rock/pop records is that they got trashed, so although they sold by the million it can be surprisingly difficult to find them in decent condition. Other genres can be much easier to find in good nick despite selling in far smaller numbers, if they tended to be bought by a more mature audience that treated them better.
