Morning all, looking for some advice from the knowledgable folk on here.

I passed my DAS late last year and put the bike buying on hold until the weather starts to warm up a bit. A bike will only be a weekend one - I commute into London from the south so not an option for day to day biking, except maybe for the train station on occasion.

So it comes down to what bike. I like the naked sports bike look with low slung exhausts. I have narrowed it down to a few and would be interested in opinions on these. I passed on a ER6N, which I found quite buzzy and thought if this was due to the twin. As such I have tended to look at triples or il4s. I've also convinced myself ABS is a must.

Triumph Street triple - looks great, seems to get great reviews. Good all rounder.

Yamaha MT09 - as above, maybe not quite same build quality, questionable front suspension but not sure I'd notice tbh

Honda CB1000r - if I was a bit less sensible I'd probably already have bought one of these. Likely more power than I need, but this is probably where I'd end up in a few years.

Yamaha XJ6N - the sensible choice imo. I think they look great, certainly the insurance is the lowest of all these by a fair margin. Are they a bit boring?

Budget wise up to 6k but would prefer a bit less. Would welcome any thoughts on the above.

Cheers,

Z

I wanted a triumph street triple but couldn't afford a new one and the 2nd hand ones were a couple of grand more than I wanted to spend - so I went for a Yamaha xj6 diversion. It does what it says on the tin.....plenty of power there for a first timer (like me); but also have. Triumph America for some fun lazy biking too.

I have no point of reference to compare and contrast lots of different bikes though, but the xj6 is nice enough. If you've got the money though I'd go for a striple......

I passed my mod 2 my on an XJ6 & loved it, great for riding about town. If moneys not too big an issue i'd go for the Striple though.

I don't think any of them are bad choices. Be aware that you are likely to drop your first bike (if only a fumble when pushing it around), so either buy something you don't mind scraping or budget to spend some money on crash guards (bobbins, engine guards).

I'd also be tempted to go a bit cheap for the first bike rather than blowing your budget; you don't really know what you want, so may want to go through a few bikes as you scratch itches or just want something more revvy/torquey/higher/lower/etc. It's less painful to chop and change cheap bikes. Mrs bamt went through three bikes in her first year before finding one that really fitted and suited her - funnily enough (but quite co-incidentally) going down in cost each time.

the suspension is to a budget and it bobbs & weaves round corners and over un-even road surfaces... you get power surges aswell though a throttle tamer helps and adjustin the throttle position sensor...
it will never be right ..
the bike just wants to GO !
so the power delivery(torque) kicks in aggressively from almost the start ...
its a hooligan.
i lasted 6 months... Confused

i traded the yam for one of these..
a heavier general purpose bike with a smooth linier power delivery as with many IL4 it dont kick off till you hit 5k rpm ....
much easier to live with if a little un-excitin.. suspension is firm ,progressive but compliant..
no hidden suprises or worries..
i use mine for the urban environment at this it is excellent ...
i tend to keep off motoways as those sort of speeds; for any thing other than a short trip; are a pain....
been around for a while lots of spares and accessories...
its a honda and does exactly what it says on the tin..

both bikes are insurance group 15..
iirc the honda uses a little more fuel than the yamaha.... 2 or 3 mpg.

In fact the bike was so powerful I was afraid to carry on riding it, I took it back to him, and explained that It will take me years to be able to comfortably and confidently get adjusted to it.

I really donot trust my self anyways with such a powerful bike, I'll stick to the 500-600cc range i guess.

and the jivebunny award for most made up shit goes to nasmoh.

i bet the guy isnt even lituanian hes probably from Belarus or Latvia.

What are you talking about? My neighbor is from Lithuania, I think thats the spec of his bike from what he told me. I am totally new into the bike scene, and could use some corrections. I do make mistakes.

However what is this hostility, stop this hate posts god damn it. I am not here to fight, I took his bike on a ride he promised me once I passed my mod2.

Yeah when referring to themselves! I lived 6 years in Ashmore suburb in the gold coast, so picked up lots of slang from my neighbor.

so this 300hp h2r is actualy a z1000sx acording to the pic you found on the net and posted here.
and while they are a quite good tourer they are hardly the last word in performance or handling.

so just admit that some guy let you ride his dreary tourer and you felt the need to sex it up a little(a lot)

estonia?
