So this is going back around November 2014 I moved out of my parents to live in private rented house with a friend.
To commute to work I had to use my bike.
One night 3 lads - I'd say around 18-21 tried to steal my bike and at the time it was only a Haotian HT125-8 (basically Lexmoto Vixen). Luckily my bedroom faced the garden and I sleep with my window open (I don't know why but I wasn't cold) and luckily heard them.
The bike was halfway out the back gate where they dropped it and ran off and this bent the bars. Sad
Ever since, although I have got a YBR now, I check every night to see if the bike is still there despite having locks, padlocked gate, cameras in the garden. Sometimes I check several times during the day.

Anyone else been in a similar situation or should I just man up?

inB4 I have TPFT insurance

After two attempts on my bike I've resigned to the thinking that what will be, will be. If Mr. Pikey really wants it then nothing is going to stop him.

You can only do so much and the rest is down to how much effort said Mr. Pikey is willing to expend on stealing your YBR.

having said that, I too glance out of the window when ever I'm passing... Thumbs Up

What did you do whilst yours has been attempted to be stolen twice? Was it anchored or?

Figure out what would give you peace of mind, then save up and purchase it. That's the only way you'll stop worrying. Although you do have to accept some risk because this world is full of dysfunctional specimens.

Initial ideas that come to mind:
- Got a lock for your gate?
- Wire up a sensor that detects when the gate is open?
- - - Wouldn't be too difficult to wire the gate up to an alarm that must be turned off before opening the gate. Doesn't have to be too secure, just unexpected for intruders.
- Motion light?
- Thick chain with ground anchor?

Personally I wouldn't care if the value of my security exceeded that of the bike. It'll still all be beneficial for future bikes that you own.

I have a lock for my gate but if they can get through that, they can get through my chain.

I never thought of a sensor for the gate that could be something I can invest in as you say for future bikes also. Any decent recommendations?

Might sound daft but is there no way to keep the bike in the house even?

I know that when looking at houses, I either want a garage or patio doors. In our last place I kept the Street Triple in the kitchen.

Honestly, nothing. Nothing has changed and I don't plan on doing anything more.
I have a disc lock on the front wheel and a chain through the rear but it's not chained to anything. The chain is there more as a visual deterrent as it can be seen even when the cover is on.

The way I see it, the only way my bike can get stolen is if they lift it into the back of a van. In which case they're probably organised thieves who will do all sorts to get the bike. Rather they take the bike than break into my house looking for the keys.

When the attempt happened I did just manage to get it through the backdoor into the kitchen and did so for a week or so.
After moving from there though it isn't possible to get it through due to the way the house is laid out.

Why what happened?

Never had an attempted theft so I rely on a crap chain/padlock on the gate (mainly so it doesn't blow open), my room overlooking the back garden (even tho' I once slept through the police trying to kick my door in), and BCF's favorite the old steering lock Thumbs Up

I've heard youths passing by saying that's where that bike's fam', but don't really want to install a ground anchor etc. as it would be more faffing about getting the bike out. Oh and I don't feel compelled to check on it Smile
