I've got a contract with O2. In fact, I've got three of them on one bill. They are SIM only and beyond the end of the contacts. O2 called me up a few times over that last couple of months to see if I wanted to take out a new contract for another 12 months. They offered me slightly better terms, but not much and I told them not to bother as it wasn't worth losing the flexibility for the small difference.

I've just got rid of my iPad, which had a separate data only SIM in it and got a new Surface Pro 4 instead. Which I want to tether to my phone when I'm on the train. I decided I ought to look at tariffs to see what's out there now (to get something with a bit more than the 1GB of data I had) and I noticed that Vodafone have a special offer 12 month SIM only contract with unlimited calls and texts plus 20GB of data a month for £20 for the next week or so. And I can add two more sharer SIMs, at £12/month each, to share those calls/text/data.

Cue calling up O2 to get my PAC codes. Bit of a wait, then get through, bit more of a wait, then get through to retention team - who immediately offer me 50% off any of their 12 month contracts. Including 3 SIMs with unlimited/unlimited/5GB for £10/month (+VAT) each. Why didn't they do this before? Bastards.

Its all a fucking con, my wife had a contract with 02 for 8 years but when we came to the end of our contract this time they didnt offer us anything very good. So i told her to get the pac codes and they said thats all they could do.
So i went on mobiles.co.uk website and got myself an s6 and her a applewankphone6 for a much better deal than offered by 02.
And our new phones are with 02.... Laughing Rolling Eyes

I was on O2 for 6 years, used to phone them up and go through to retentions each year to upgrade.

Thought everyone did it

When they called me, they offered me something like that. Bit more data, but more money. But when I called to cancel they gave me 4GB of extra data a month and £7.20 a month off my bill.

I'm not on contract. Pay and go for me, don't use data services enough to warrant an allowance, when I do it's via
wifi anyway. Sim only, free calls all the time and free texts, the rest I do via whats app/email for nothing. I top up
by 15 a month and never pay anything beyond that and have done for a good few years. When it's new phone time
I just buy one, I'm not techy enough to care if it's the latest phone. I've only just come across to smartphones anyway.
They are all a bit space age for someone who started out with one of these.https://www.mobilephonehistory.co.uk/motorola/one2one_m301_closed.jpg
The old Mercury 121 flip phone. I went to BT Genie after that.

I moved to giffgaff a couple of months ago and it's been problem free, their prices are outstanding and you would enjoy many times.

Coincidental, giffgaff runs on the O2 network.

Giffgaff/o2 is useless round my way, wankest 3g/4g signal ever.

I looked at them, but they were more expensive than the deal O2 were offering (albeit with a 12 month contract). Which is a bit of a shame as I fancied telling O2 to bugger off for wasting my time and not offering it me earlier.

I'm with EE (or is it BT now). I left Vodafone when I left the sea. Was only with them as their abroad service for both price and coverage was superb whereas EE did a better all in bundle.

But it seems to me it's the same a insurance. If you don't whine like a little girl at the end of your contract they will fob you off with he worst deal they can get away with. Then when you say something, oh yes Sir, we can do better than that. Fucking legal scammers.

Anyway, how many companies are left now? Vodafone, BT and O2 to choose from? Giff Gaff is owned by Telephonica who own O2. Not a lot of choice really.

Personally with EE myself but as polar said maybe BT now?
They offered me a tablet with 10GB of data for £20 a month a few months after I took my phone out. Of course I said no because I have 2 phone contracts with them and I wouldn't use 10GB of data unless I'm going through wifi.

+1 Giffgaff.

Despite my day job, I'm a fairly new convert to smartphones and I don't use social media, so when I'm out the phone stays hidden away unless I need e.g. directions. Wifi at home/work takes care of the rest.

I always use MoneySavingExpert to find my contracts. I currently have a 64GB iPhone 6 and when I took out the contract, I crunched the numbers and worked out that the unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 4GB of 4G data costs less than a fiver a month when you take the cost of the phone into account.

Then again, I'm a tight Yorkshireman so I don't spend anything over £20 without research.

I was with o2 since I was 18, so nearly 12 years. Was paying nearly £50 a month until recently. I decided to sort a few things out and managed to get a new 6s, unlimited everything for £30 a month through mobiles.co.uk. Realised that I wasted a lot of money with o2. Pays to shop around.

Always think of contracts as a bit old fashioned now.

I've been with Vodafone for a few years now, since I went to Phones4U to buy me out of my Three contract. Had issues then, about two years ago I got the "valued customer, upgrade innit" call, where I got a HTC One (M7) with 600 minutes, unlimited text and 500mb per month for £23 per month (should have been £29 Shocked )

Anyways, about six months ago, my mrs noticed that there was another DD setup on the account from Vodafone so she cancelled it. Since then, any attempt to make a payment through DD has been rejected and it was down to their systems. Called to cancel (about three months of contract left, but because they hadnt resolved the issue, they were in breach of contract). They agreed to let me cancel without penalty and asked where I was going for a service. I explained that my mrs and son have a contract with the same deal as I had for £7.50 per month from Tesco and had a phone included. I might pay a bit more for data, I said. They then offered me the same calls and texts deal with 2.5Gb of data per month for £10.20 per month, with a new phone (Galaxy summat or other) and a £20 cashback offer. Job jobbed. Kept the M7 which still does what I want it to do (albeit with a shite battery).

tl:dr - Vodafone halved my monthly bill and more than quadrupled my data allowance.
