Hi All,

I am desperately in need of a new motorcycle jacket and I am also strapped for cash as usual. Anyway, I've seen this leather jacket on eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CBR-HONDA-NEW-LEATHER-MOTORBIKE-CE-ARMOR-MOTORCYCLE-JACKET-RACING-JACKET-/201520530503?hash=item2eeb8f4447:g:ztwAAOSwZ1lWgY~y

Which boasts tailor made sizing and CE approved armour. Does anyone have any experience with these? I don't want to buy it and find that the build quality is shocking or will tear if I were to drop it on the floor Shocked

Thanks all

Chinese and will be low quality. These have been around for years.

If on a budget, buy a quality 2nd hand one.

Keep checking on ebay and something decent will turn up for a reasonable price.
Couple years ago I managed to get a full set of Hein Gericke leathers in almost new condition for £110, new price circa £600. That's not an uncommon scenario, and I know other members have won auctions for decent quality gear for half that (lucky gits).

If you can hold out a couple of months there's likely to be more stuff listed through spring as people start clearing stuff out - fair weather riders who have moved up a size or two over winter, riders selling the bike and gear, etc etc.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

If it helps, I bought a jacket from a German seller called sptrachtenmode (ignore the lederhosen) and it's really bloody good quality, sort of thing you would pay 400 quid for, if it had an A* badge on it.

There is a TON of bargin jackets on ebay tbh.

Sure you wont get the most gucci bit of kit, but there is so much out there in the auction mode if you are on a budget. I got the majority of my kit from ebay and hand-me-downs, apart from ze lid.

Look for brand names on ebay.

Middle aged men go through a mid-life crisis and decide they want to ride motorcycles again. They have a high disposable income so they buy a new bike and high-end gear.

The bike sits in a garage doing a round trip for servicing every year. The gear gets worn a couple of times.

Then they decide they need a sit-on lawnmower, sell the bike to make room for it and put their practically new, high-end leathers on ebay.

I bought a proper, heavy, mid 90's Bellstaff leather jacket off ebay last year for £65. When it arrived, there was no sign of it having been worn at all.

So keep your eyes peeled.

It's about the time of year to catch the leather jackets going on ebay becasue it's too big for me now meaning seller has failed new years diet and is too fat for kit likely worn for a few sunny sundays. That said, if you're flat broke a textile jacket might be more within reach. I just killed my hg jacket and by going sporty not adventure found a new rst jacket for a lot less than i was prepared to pay

The jacket you are looking at will likely not be double stitched anywhere and will fall apart at the first sign of tarmac. It's a fashion jacket.

On the plus side for those, I've had two of those cheap style jackets before. Got one from someone on here for a tenner, another from a boot sale. Was solid enough.

Alpinestars, Dainese, RevIt, Spidi.

If you want some decent in-depth reviews of gear then revzilla is a great site to look at, near enough every product will have a youtube video reviewing.

Modern Frank Thomas is J&S own brand stuff, as is bks. I have some old frank Thomas textile trousers and they are probably better made than my hein gericke jacket.

There is a massive gulf in quality between cheap stuff like the above, austrailian bikers gear branded kit, the stuff leathers direct sell and entry-level stuff at reputable bike shop, by which i mean frank thomas and similar.

Hein Gericke, rst and Ixs all appear to have kit that spans from entry level to some level of premium product. I just chose an RST tractec textile jacket over alpinestars jackets for similar money. The cheap alpinestars kit is cheap for a reason.

It will be interesting to see what happens when it becomes law that motorcycle clothing has to meet ce standards for the entire garment. It's already a differentiating feature in gloves and boots. Mostly I'd like to see now much kit doesnt pass. I have some Held summer gloves that claim ce level 1 glove standards for everything except waterproofing as they are mostly unlined leather and some superfabric. They feel great to wear. My ce level 1 gortex gloves are bulkier. I didn't get on with a pair of hundred pound lefel two bks winter gloves. Couldnt move in them. Ebay meant i didnt lose too much. My altbergs are strong as fuck, but a little bulky. I wonder which jackets shall dissappear off the market?
