Well after getting up at 6am we (being me g and dusty) set of towards silverstone we arrive their just after 8 am where G sets about fixing the r6 which wouldnt start. We all head down to signing on which is followed by the briefing, at the end of the briefing we are told we were not going anywhere as the track had ice on it still and we would be kept informed. At close to 11 oclock we had a call for novices to get ready now slightly scared we line up and of me go. At first I really did not like silverstone as I was not particulary confident and how quick the track was and the coldness added together you could say I was not a happy bunny.

Anyway next time I am out I get cut up by some idiots and I then go back in as I now am having some irrational fear of people over taking me on track and for the next few sessions I come in early.

Second to last session I go out with a instructor and it helps my confidance loads and I just start to enjoy the track when it is my last session.

So in the end a good day but bloody cold!

Gee, you Southerners start early don't you!!!

Track days in February? Shocked

We had to cancel a rideout on Sunday because of snow/ice Laughing

And, it's not fair that you can have access to all those tracks - we've gotta make do with Knockhill!

Sounds like you had fun anyway - you planning on doing Silverstone again in the better weather?

Ice on the track sounds a bit nasty Confused. Glad you enjoyed yourself at the end though.

Hint: Tracks in the south tend to be warmer than tracks in the midlands Wink

It was a bit nippy but after the ice melted it was actually a great day, it was cold but dry which was what I was hoping for!

After my poor performance at oulton I wasn't really looking forward to silverstone that much as its an even straighter track than oulton (which doesn't really suit low cc bikes like my zxr4) Anyway, after the first couple of sessions being rather warey of ice I started getting into it a bit more. After lunch I was actually keeping pace with the majority of bikes out there, and by the last session I actually got my knee down (completely accidently) for the first time on this zxr4 which was great. After the knee first touched I was getting it down all around the track (right one only tho Sad ). I got passed quite a few of the bigger bikes and have eventually found my confidence on the zxr400 (to Shauns disappointment).

So I may keep the bikes and leave off getting the lotus elise for a while yet. Wink

Yes, it was amusing to see Shauns great disappointment seeing Mikes returning to form Dance! Wink.

It's a shame we didn't get to see more of the battle between Korn and G due to a slightly knackered bike. Should prove interesting next time they are both out though now they have the same bike. Razz

As a side note, there was a yellow GSXR who got noticed by the spectators..........that guy could ride, showed Shaun up no end. No more excuses about the bike now, we've seen what it can do! Mr. Green

All in all a good day, if a little on the cold side. I slowly got faster as the sessions got on, i even manaaged to go round the first bend leaning the bike a little in the last session. Dance! Confidence is going up so hopefully by the time i get on track with bendy ill be riding like a nut case again!

Wasn't much of a battle unfortunately Sad. Didn't feel I was pushing myself, never mind the bike. Only started to ride half decently in the last session really, still no where near pushing braking or tyre limits.
Korn did get me under the bridge after abbey, where he always seems to get me .... then outbraked himself on the next corner... that's usually my trick Smile.

Think after all the 'issues' I didn't really get a chance to get into it properly... I better be more agressive at Snetterton next week, or it isn't going to be worth racing Confused.

That whole section is really fun, if you hold your speed through the really fast left hander you can always slip past people who are too early on the brakes for Bridge - as G keeps finding out Razz

So far I'm very happy with the R6, it's a lot easier to ride than the R1 was. Not as edgy and you can relax instead of worrying about it misbehaving, I've never ridden a 600 'properly' until yesterday so wasn't sure I'd made the right choice but it's definitely ahead in terms of fun!
