started my bike today, being cold had a fair bit of condensation out the exhausts and noticed it was blowing onto my tyre.... looked underneath to see a decent sized hole in the carbon fibre... yay!

explains why 1 exhaust wasnt blowing as hard as the other.

any way to bodge this? or am i going to have to spend £30 on a carbon fibre kit to fix.

i have the exhaust and sleeve off at the moment.

gotta spend £££ to get it compression and leak tested next week too soo all £ saved = win

its surging at a cruise and the carbs have been apart 4 times, jets changed multiple times all the way back to stock and nothing has cured it.

Carbon cans on a big v-twin? Laughing

Well they're not going to last long, replace them with something better.

You only ever do a leak down test if the compression test shows low compression and the results are open to interpretation.

If it has low compression you may as well just dump the bike unless you know someone who does head work and rebores.

well its at 25k and valve clearances haven't been done, no amount of carb work has changed the surging at a cruise.

Why are you messing about with the fueling rather than servicing it first?

because i didnt know it wasn't the carb and i didn't know it hadnt been serviced, the bike has been looked after clearly skipped the 24k service with clearances.

For future reference. You never ever mess around with the fueling on any vehicle unless you have made sure there aren't any other problems.

For example, does your bike have a fuel pump? if it does the problems you describe could be down to the points in the pump. It could also be down to a partially blocked fuel filter.
Does the surging happen between 4-5000rpm, if so it could be due to emissions regs.
What condition is the chain in?
What condition are the HT leads and plug caps in?
Has anyone modified the airbox in any way?

Sounds like a leaan running problem but it is unlikely that the valve clearances alone are causing this problem.

no fuel pump graivty fed with vacuum hose from carb not blocked

surging is at 3500rpm+ and only when i hold the throttle steady, fine if i accelerate or decelerate.

chains great condition not slack not tight and well oiled.

ht leads and plug cap all good, plugs good.

airbox is standard

i got into the carbs because it had been jetted when i got it, i set it back to standard and its not changed it.

Anyway, for the exhaust silencers, you need to change the fillings in them, or you're gonna burn a hole in it. Well carbon composite exhausts just crumble apart. It's the aluminium and stainless steel that gets holes burned through the casing of the exhaust. Thumbs Up
