Usual story, routine checks on the condition of the tyres and found a small piece of glass in the rear.

Picture below makes it look like it's a straight entry because of the photo being taken from overhead of the cut. Viewing it in person the glass is actually downwards with what you see in the photo being the head or top of the glass and it only goes down a short way to literally just under the bit of tread that's sticking out below it.

I've looked at it and come to the conclusion that it's not deep enough to have actually punctured the tired but rather a bit of rubble that's just stuck under the tread, also not noticing any loss of air. No difference in handling or riding and feels normal.

I'm willing to just leave it in the rear and do its thing because the way I see if it's not deep enough to have punctured the tyre then I'm only going to end up damaging the outer tread trying to push it out. Anyone else smarter than me think it needs more action than that?

Tyre is tubeless. Best picture at current below.

I'd pull/pick it out.

One of two things will happen. Either the tyre will stay up = win. or The tyre goes down = repair.

Why would you leave it there to work its way in further?

You won't be causing a puncture that hadn't already happened by pulling it out.

Only time I'd deliberately leave a foreign object stuck in my tyre is if I was fairly certain it HAD caused a puncture and needed to limp to somewhere I was in a position to repair it. In fact, I've seen someone deliberately put a self-tapping screw into a puncture to get to a garage.

I half heartedly attempted to push it up and out earlier but discovered it to be wedged in harder than a simple push out required, although I literally just gave it a light push and gave up because of being out and about. Shall go at it carefully with a pair of pliers tomorrow and see what I achieve.

Worse case I get to use my crappy tyre pluggers from fleebay and limp the bike to the local cowboy garage and end up spending money that would otherwise be donated to a recovery driver somewhere along the line.

Thumbs Up Karma

If you are in the South East, bring it to me and I will fix it for you (Or at least try to).

People think that a puncture is only a problem if the tyre will no longer hold air.

Any cuts in the tyre and treaded area are dangerous. They let moisture into the steel structure of the tyre, which will over time, rust, and bloat. Causing de-lamination and bulges.

See what happens when I attempt to remove it tomorrow and go from there.

And we're done, I think?

Gave a bit of a wrestle but came out fairly easily in the end. Was thankful that the piece of glass was the size that it appeared to be upon visual inspection and not a long piece wedged in. Size of glass (picture below) is measured with everyone's favorite oxfraud key.

I've put both my hand and ear by the cut left in the wheel and can't feel or hear any loss of air. The picture below shows its size (the cut in the tyre) again with an oxfraud key (because I'm assuming everyone has one, maybe, and can size it up in person themselves).

Since there's no instant hissing or loss of air (that I can tell) then I'd call that a temporary win. Advisable to check it again in say 24 hours or just leave it and go about business as normal?

Any further attention needed in regards to the cut in the tyre or just carry on as normal. Only thing that came to mind immediately was to check it over more often to ensure no further debris works its way inside.

That's not big enough to have gone through the main tread.

Give it no further thought. I'll run on tyres worn past the point that's stuck into.

My rubber often looks like a frag grenade has gone off near them with the shit I pull out, I'm a shit for flying up hashed lines where all the flotsam collects. I also get loads of sharp flint in my tyres from the gravel driveway.

Upshot of waffle; I've pulled bigger than that out without giving it a second thought.
