...in France.

https://www.motards-idf.fr/2015/circulation-inter-files-a-moto-officiellement-autorisee-a-paris/

What the article states is that filtering has moved from 'tolerated' to 'fully legal' in France as of 1st Feb. However, there will now be specific roadsigns indicating bikers are allowed to filter. This is purely on roads when there are traffic jams, where the speed limit is between 70 and 130 kph and in addition, filtering needs to be below 50 kph. Above 50kph, filtering will be illegal and the biker will need to ride behind cars.

Above 50 kph, this is not considered to be a traffic jam and therefore filtering is illegal.

I like the fact there is a law authorising filtering when riding in France, particularly as there is now no ambiguity from an insurance perspective. Filtering is legal, if a driver takes you out while filtering, it's their hard fromage and they need to pay up.

Out of pure curiosity, would you like to see a law legalising filtering in the UK?

It's not illegal. It's acknowledged in the highway code.

What is illegal is riding in a careless or dangerous manner.

Filtering at high speed could be considered to be this.

The Highway Code isn't law. Davis vs Shrogin is precedent (I read it on here somewhere) and therefore makes filtering legal.

In France, they've gone one step further and created a law with roadsigns reminding drivers that bikers can filter. I quite like that.

In this country, generally you can do anything that has not been outlawed.

In some stupid foreign countries, you can't do what has not been declared to be legal.

No, you were overtaking and there's nothing wrong with that. Thumbs Up

So, prohibited everywhere else?

Do not want. Triton nailed it, prohibited-unless-permitted is very... European. Sick

Highway code S88 and S211 plus screeds of case law is in our favour.

Some people do it between cars on dual carriageways at 70 when the cars are doing 50 or 60.

Its overtaking and undertaking at the same time, filtering Smile

I'm not really sure France needs this law since the French are some of the most courteous drivers on the road when it comes to motorcycles. unlike in the UK, the French practically drive into a ditch to let bikers past them.

Its always been my understanding that its filtering when your passing stationary traffic, but becomes overtaking when the traffic is moving.

sure i read that somewhere but could have been a toilet wall or the times, i cant remember Sad
