Took the A584 out of Denbigh in yesterday morning's sunshine.

Long story short, was going too quick, came over a crest in the road, was faced with a sharp right hander, panic braked, locked both ends and ended up in a ditch. In b4 target fixation. 100% did target fixate, probably should of lent it over and rode it round, but in my moment of panic I made the choice between going into a soft ditch at 20mph or potentially coming off further round the bend at 50mph.

Nobody else to blame but myself, very disappointed in my stupidity. Suspect there would of been quite a few crashes yesterday, lots of bikers out (a few off who stopped, thanks!) who looked to have just brought their bike out the garage. I've been riding all winter, but clearly had a rush of blood to the head at getting a dry road for once.

In the immortal words of Casey Stoner, my ambition outweighed my talent.

Need new front fairings and a headlight bracket, but otherwise seems OK. Rode it the 60 miles home anyway.

Wasn't this corner by any chance was it?

https://goo.gl/maps/vimSLDGDqcD2

If it is I came off on that corner 18 months ago under the same circumstances, too fast and paniced and I put the bike down on the verge. No damage to me but smashed a mirror and fucked the fairing up again Embarassed

Cycling biker, it was that exact corner! No shit! Glad to see it's not just me that has misjudged that one. Rogerborg, I think cyclingbiker has kindly provided a picture/diagram for me Wink

I keep meaning to go on that road again and not crash, it taught me not to ride faster than is safe depending on how far ahead I can see. It was embarrassing crashing in front of a whole group of people I barely knew on my first ride out (that I was leading Embarassed )

Yes I am still alive and well Ash, that black tape adorned my fairings until I got them repaired the next week, unfortunately the repair and paint job by that chap from Ellesmere port was shit and not worth £120 I paid the fucker.

Need to go on another NWB rideout soon for sure Thumbs Up

Major York's road Tunbridge Wells

8am this morning, great start to the weekend Laughing

Riding along , I see a biker with his hazards on by the side of the road with his phone out, I signal to him for several seconds to make sure he's ok - look back round and the traffic in front has suddenly stopped - grab a handful of the front and off I come off at around 30 - 40 mph.

Got up straight away and hobbled over to my bike lying by the kerb.

Biker ran over in shock , helped me lift my bike up. After we got the bike up we check for damage before I hopped back on and started her up - unfortunately I couldn't get her started so walked him with the bike (fortunately I live about a 15 minute walk away).

Before walking home, I was met by about 3 - 4 people who had got out of their cars to ask if I was ok and the two drivers in front came over to ask whether it was their fault it happened.

It turns out all the biker needed were some directions.. Laughing

Green - me looking at biker with hazards on

Red - place of spill - either go into the back of a range rover sport or go sliding down the road

Yellow - where traffic had stopped

Bike damage

I will need to replace crash bungs and rear brake lever, everything else seems to be ok , just scratched.

Helmet and gloves need replacing, apart from that everything else is in good nick.

I'm not in bad shape - sore ribs , sore hand and my hip hurts when walking. Thumbs Up

You forgot to include the part about the biker at the side of the road coming over and helping you lift your bike up and ask if you're ok. Wait, s/he did, right?

Gloves really that damaged?

Also forgot to include what state you're in. Of which I can only assume the gear did its job. Thumbs Up

Updated post Thumbs Up , thanks.

The right hand glove knuckle protection has worn down considerably (almost all the way through), I wouldn't want to have another spill while wearing them.

Has the bike started since? I appreciate that after a spill or drop you enter panic mode and just want everything to go back to before (that's in general rather than to describe how you reacted in this situation) but it may be worth noting (for anyone that is) that turning the ignition off and on again after a drop or spill might cure the bike not wanting to start. Its just something I've seen on a couple of videos and might come in handy for someone at some point.

New 2016 ranges being released. Always a good excuse to get some new gear. Very Happy Thumbs Up Karma

Few years ago I had to push my bike up that exact grass bank (luckily just a 125) on a day visit to Bewl Water. Having filtered along 3 miles of the A264 I found it rammed down this road as well because a bus and a lorry had tried to get past each other (with a load of parked cars on one side) and gotten wedged together.

As I emerged in front of the blockage, pushing my bike on the pavement and then down the other side, there was Mr Policeman dealing with the wedged vehicle situation. Was quite glad I'd decided to push it rather than Sam Sunderland it.

True story bro.

Funny that I can remember that but not what I did 5 mins ago Smile

EDIT:
Forgot to say, if that's all the damage from a 30-40mph drop, that's impressive! Unlucky, but lucky.

Lost count of numbers, sorry Sad

Was sitting in the middle of the right hand lane of the A4 heading into Central London at a red light, nothing behind me, thinking about what I was going to have for lunch. Next thing, I hear SCCRREEEEEEEEECCHHHH and I'm airborne. End up with the bike in the middle of the crossroads and me face down near the pedestrian crossing. A guy in a Sprinter van had rear-ended me.

https://i.imgur.com/2eEUXMb.png

Guy said the sun was in his eyes and didn't see me. He clearly didn't see the stopped vehicles on my left in the other 2 lanes and the 3+ red lights on display too.

Bike looks fine from the front, fooked from the back, wheel is smashed in and lots of plastic broke plus brake lever bent etc., don't know how bad it actually is though?

https://i.imgur.com/vA24iOe.jpg

Police and ambulance attended and the guy admitted liability to the police so hopefully will be straightforward. Got a witness' name and phone number as well.

Insurance (MCE - TPFT!) lost all interest when I declined the hire bike, hopefully that's the right thing to do? Have had it recovered home (£120) and got a taxi in to work (kept receipt). What should I do next, looks like a fairly open-and-shut case?

Amazing thing is there's not a scratch on me. I'm sure I'll feel it in the morning, but I literally got up straight away and helped dragged the bike out of the road. Can't believe it, off to buy a lottery ticket.

Congrats on not getting injured Thumbs Up

Depends with the courtesy bike, MCE through their (preferred) fucktard solicitors Fletchers have chased people for hire fees long after a claim, and if liability's disputed it's iffy having a courtesy bike.

In a non-fault claim I'd probably just take a nice new bike to ride for a while, but it could drag the claim out a bit. MCE (like all insurers) will want to bloat the claim as much as possible, hire bike, storage fees, personal injury claim... are you sure you're not injured... really sure? Razz

If you go with MCE they'll probably refer you to Flectchers, and you'll spend ages chasing a bunch of useless scousers and doing a lot of the work yourself, but if they still have the deal in place (when they dealt with my claim) you'll get to keep all the money from your claim. I believe if you find another solicitor/claims management company they take 25%.

Congrats again (on not getting hurt), I dread getting rear ended & nervously watch my mirrors at traffic lights Neutral

Going about 30 on this road
Get to here and https://i.imgur.com/IXCKvhx.png Bam, a car outta nowhere, I put on my brake while going round the corner and slip on this shit https://i.imgur.com/eYw4XmN.png went down at about 10mph but the bike slipped and hit the underside of their freelander Sad

No real damage to the bike, clutch leaver moved a bit, left mirror fixed, right mirror bit more wobbly than before. They have a small scratch on the underside of their plastic bumper but still wanted my name and number although said they probably won't need it.

Needs paintshop to capture the moment when the Freelander teleported in "outta nowhere". Did it make a "whoomp" sound as it displaced the air while materialising? Thinking
