Around last Autumn I started wearing orthotics for a short time, wasn't impressed with them so stopped, but quickly developed pain in my achilles. Told the podiatrist, and she gave me some exercises to do, which I've been doing and although they help its still been getting worse.

Anyone had similar problems and know of anything that will help? I've been putting padding in the back of my socks to try & protect the tendon, but even walking short distances is uncomfortable Neutral

I suffered for a while, I think from doing some long distances on a pushbike that wasn't quite set up right. In my case I self-treated using some wedges in my shoes to raise my heel a bit, and strapping it up using rigid coach/athletic tape. There's plenty of vids on the net on how this is done; basically you point your toes and put a line of tape from the bottom of your foot up to your calf, then wrap tape around to keep it in place. You then can't quite straighten your foot, and the tendon is supported.

Worked fine for me, but obviously you may have some underlying issue that needs sorting.

The orthotics were to shift my weight back (knee problems causing me to lean forwards) and try to straighten one of my legs a bit, so that'll probably be a good thing to try. Thanks Thumbs Up

yep my (pedal) bike shoes caused mine. The tendon ended up creaking when i would walk/ stretch it.

Found mine was caused by misadjusted cycling shoes - basically the cleats were too far back causing strain on the tendon

took about 12 weeks for it to become normal again

Mines the back of the ankle and also my heel hurts (that has a different name I think). Been wearing a bandage thing around the ankle and also some padding on my heel, feels a little better. Walking causes mine to flare up really badly, driving isn't brilliant either.

Gentle heat on the achilles works for me, I get it before and after kickboxing training especially when its cold.
